Catherine strolled toward the dorm, her fingers laced with Lawrence’s. That’s when she realized he was actually wearing his wedding ring today. It was just a plain band, but somehow it looked perfect on him.

She lifted their joined hands to admire the rings, grinning to herself. The more she stared, the happier she felt.

After a few more steps, something popped into her mind. Her eyes lit up and she turned to Lawrence, blurting out, “Now that I landed the Project Apex Initiative, do you think the CEO of Nexus Dynamics would give me a one hundred million dollar advance on my salary?”

Lawrence paused for a second, glancing down at her. She was practically glowing with excitement, and he couldn’t help but smile fondly.

He pretended to think it over, drawing it out like he was seriously considering it. “I’ve heard the CEO at Nexus Dynamics really cares about top talent.”

Catherine’s eyes grew even brighter. “Really? So you think he might actually say yes?”

A hint of a smile flickered in Lawrence’s eyes as he nodded, acting all serious. “With how you performed today, and the potential of Project Apex Initiative, if you ask, who knows? Maybe he’ll make an exception just for you.”

Catherine nodded eagerly. “Yeah, I have to try. Once the results are out, I’ll write up an official application, attach my defense materials and the feedback from the judges, and see if I can impress this mysterious CEO enough to get a meeting.”

Lawrence’s heart melted a little. He slid his arm around her, pulling her close. “You could just mention it to Magee, you know.”

Catherine blinked at him. “Really? Just talk to Magee? No need for a whole application and paperwork?”

Lawrence chuckled, his voice warm and indulgent. “You don’t have to make it so complicated.”

Catherine was all for skipping the paperwork. She nodded. “Okay, I’ll talk to Magee when I get back. I’ll ask him to help me put in a good word. I’m going for that one hundred million advance.”
