“Absolutely.” Magee nodded, his tone steady. “We’re finalizing an investment of fifty billion dollars. The details of our partnership can wait till later, but Nexus Dynamics is putting real sincerity on the table.”
“That’s amazing. Honestly, this is incredible.” Nestor shot up from his chair, cheeks glowing with excitement. “Thank you for trusting me, thank you, Magee, for believing in us. The Blair Group will give everything we’ve got.”
Lately, Nestor had been losing sleep over money problems. He never expected Nexus Dynamics to swoop in right when he needed help most, like they could see straight through his struggles.
“No need to thank me, Nestor. This is a win for both sides.” Magee’s smile stayed calm and confident. “I should get going. Let’s go over the details next week.”
“Magee, there’s no rush. Let me at least take you out for dinner tonight to show my appreciation,” Nestor offered, eager to do something in return.
Magee shook his head. “That’s really not necessary. Things are busy at the office and I need to get back.” He stood up, ready to leave.
“I’ll walk you out,” Nestor said, about to lead the way. Just then, a familiar voice spoke up.
“Dad, let me see Magee out.”
Nestor knew Lawrence got along well with Magee, so he didn’t object. “Alright, Lawrence. Take care of Magee.”
Lawrence walked Magee through the grand lobby. As soon as they stepped outside, Magee’s posture shifted. He leaned in, lowering his voice. “Lawrence, you don’t have to walk me any further.”
Lawrence nodded. “Thanks for coming all this way.”
Magee waved it off. “It was nothing.” With that, he climbed into his car and drove off.
Lawrence watched the car disappear, exhaling quietly. He was after more than just an investment for The Blair Group. What he really wanted was to give Catherine a family so strong nobody would ever dare look down on her again.
