The weekend was finally here, and Catherine was ready to make the most of it.
“Dad, I’ve got plans with Lawrence today, so I won’t be coming home this weekend,” she announced, flashing Nestor a playful smile as he enjoyed his tea.
Nestor waved her off, clearly in a good mood. “Go on, have fun.”
She was just about to step out when he called her back. “Wait, come upstairs with me for a minute.”
Catherine hesitated, a little surprised. Why did her dad want her upstairs? Was he planning some kind of surprise for her?
As Nestor headed into the study, Alice slipped out of another room. She spotted Catherine and quietly moved to the window by the study, curiosity and suspicion all over her face.
Inside, Nestor crouched in front of the safe, unlocked it with his fingerprint, and pulled out a folder and a bank card.
Catherine recognized it right away. That was the card with the hundred million she’d given her dad as a wedding present.
Nestor handed it to her. “This is the wedding gift you gave me. I haven’t touched a cent of it. Take it back.”
Catherine’s eyes stung with emotion and she looked up at him, her throat tight. “Dad, just keep it. I really don’t need the money.”
“Use it to find a nice place with Lawrence downtown. Get yourselves a new place to live. And if it’s not enough, just let me know,” Nestor said, firmly placing the card back in her hand.
“Dad…” She could barely find the words. She hadn’t expected him to return such a big gift.
Then, Nestor picked up a contract from the desk. It was the same one he’d made her sign before, the one about giving up her mother’s twenty percent share in the company.
“This contract is void now. I’ll transfer your mom’s shares to your name,” he said, tearing the document in half on the spot.
Nestor was stunned. “Wait, that’s his grandfather’s house?”
If that place belonged to Lawrence’s family, then they must have settled in the city generations ago. The old district was the heart of the city thirty years back, and owning such a big house in that area… that was something only families with real history and connections could manage.
Nestor’s eyes widened as he asked again, “Catherine, are you sure that’s his grandfather’s house? Not a rental?”
“Of course I’m sure. And remember all that old furniture you didn’t like? It’s not that Lawrence can’t afford new stuff, he just can’t bear to part with those things,” Catherine replied.
Nestor felt his face flush with embarrassment. He remembered how he’d looked down on all that old furniture the last time he visited. Now he realized how wrong he’d been.
He’d always thought Lawrence was just a capable guy from an average background.
But now… owning a huge, private house in the city’s best area for so many years? That took more than just money. That meant real roots and real connections.

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
