After the Fall A Leap into a Stranger's Arms novel Chapter 249

Lawrence looked straight at his father, calm and steady.

Patrick didn’t say anything right away. After a few seconds, though, there was a glimmer of approval in his eyes.

He knew Lawrence well. From the time he was little, Lawrence had never been the type to coast on the family name. There was always this quiet pride in him. If not, he wouldn’t have left the military years ago to chase after his own dreams.

Patrick nodded. “That’s the right attitude. A man should earn respect on his own terms.”

A weight lifted from Lawrence’s chest. He’d always sensed his father’s approval, even if it wasn’t spoken out loud.

Patrick’s expression softened. “How are things with you and Catherine? You’re treating her well, right?”

Lawrence paused, then let out a small laugh. “Of course. I couldn’t bear to do anything else.”

Patrick smiled. “Tell me about you two. How did you meet, and how did you end up married?”

Lawrence didn’t hesitate. He told his father everything, including how Catherine had saved his life six years ago when he was overseas. Patrick listened, surprised. He’d never heard that story before, and for a moment, he realized he hadn’t paid enough attention to the details of his son’s life.

“If it weren’t for Catherine, I probably wouldn’t be here today,” Lawrence said quietly, looking up at his father. “She’s going to be the best daughter-in-law you could ever wish for.”

Patrick had always liked Catherine, but now, knowing she’d once saved Lawrence’s life, he felt not just affection but a deep gratitude and protectiveness toward her.

He realized their fates had been tied together from the very beginning.

“Catherine’s a wonderful girl. She saved you, so you have to treat her right. Don’t let her down.”

Lawrence nodded, serious. “I won’t.”

Patrick continued, “Once both families meet, we’ll make sure the wedding is done properly, with all the traditions. I’ll visit Nestor myself.”

Lawrence’s eyes lit up with happiness. “Thank you, Dad.”
