Their eyes met, and Nicol gave her a warm, teasing smile. “You really have a pretty free work schedule, don’t you, Nettie?”
Nettie’s lips curved in a quiet smile. “Yeah, I’m a designer, so I can work from pretty much anywhere.”
“Your designs must be incredible,” Nicol said, his tone full of genuine admiration.
Nettie paused, a little thrown off. He’d never seen her work, so how could he know? Did he…? No, that couldn’t be. Why on earth would he bother looking into her?
Sure, she’d just won an award in the design world, but only people in the industry would know about that.
Nicol’s gaze lingered on her face, softening a little. He seemed to sense her curiosity. “I’ll be honest. I did a little research about you when I had some free time. I also know you took first prize at Fashion Week.”
Nettie’s mind went blank for a second. He actually looked her up? Someone as busy as him… why would he do that?
“Nicol, why would you…” Nettie bit her lip, her cheeks warming as she tried to figure out how to ask.
Nicol’s eyes narrowed just a touch, and he smiled. “No big reason. I just wanted to know more about you. I find you pretty interesting.”
Nettie just stared at him, her mind totally blank again. That was a lot to take in.
He was interested in her? But why?
“Do you do this with every woman you meet?” Nettie blurted out, looking up at him.
If he went around investigating every woman he met, then it wouldn’t really mean anything.
Nicol seemed to catch on instantly. He stepped a little closer and leaned in, his voice low and sincere. “No. Nettie, you’re the only one I’ve ever looked into. Just you.”
Nettie blinked, stunned. Only her?
Nettie, Nicol definitely knows I work at the office. That means he was looking for an excuse to see you, Catherine insisted.
Nettie’s heart was all over the place. Could Nicol really be interested in her? A man like him, with his status, could have anyone. Why her?
At the James Group, in Shirley’s office, her phone rang. She glanced down and saw it was an international number. Switching to English, she picked up. “Hello?”
“Shirley, it’s me, Jackson.”
“Jackson? Wow, I didn’t expect you to call.” Shirley was surprised. Jackson was a physics major who had once tried to date her.
“I heard someone requested to look at the security footage from six years ago. Was that you? Did you lose something back then?”
Shirley shot up from her chair, completely shocked. “What did you say?”

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
