“I get it.” Catherine smiled, her lips curving up. “I never make the wrong choice.”
Lawrence’s eyes flashed with approval. He took her hand and led her inside.
That night, after they’d each showered and settled into their own rooms, Catherine headed downstairs for a glass of water. She found Lawrence in the living room. He wore a plain white sleeveless shirt, the fabric hugging his chest and showing off the strong lines of his arms. He looked powerful, almost like he could spring into action at any second.
He was nothing like the polished, businesslike man she’d seen during the day. If anything, he looked more like a soldier just back from training.
Catherine couldn’t help but stare.
Lawrence noticed, pausing for a second. His voice was easy, like this was no big deal. “Old clothes. They’re just comfortable.”
“So you really did come back from the military?” Catherine asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
He nodded. “Yeah.”
“Then why become an engineer?” she pressed, unable to hold back.
He poured her a glass of water and handed it over. “Computers have always been my thing.” For a moment, his gaze drifted away, thoughtful. “These days, tech is what really matters.”
Catherine nodded, pretending to think it over. She tilted her head and put on her most innocent face. “So what do you actually do at work?”
Lawrence’s expression softened, probably charmed by her curiosity. “Mainly artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.”
Her eyes sparkled. “So you just type code all day?”
Lawrence reached out and gently ruffled her hair. “You really are a curious little cat.”
Catherine blushed, leaning into his hand with a smile. “I can’t help it. I’m just curious.”
Catherine, what are you even hoping for?
All the real husband-and-wife stuff could wait. For now, she needed to focus.
“Get it together,” she muttered, giving her cheeks a quick slap. There was still work to do.
Five minutes later, in the spare room, Lawrence sat in front of his laptop, going through an encrypted file. The screen showed the latest updates about The James Group, and his eyes grew colder as he read.
The James Group was about to launch Resonance AI and plenty of potential partners would be interested. It looked like they were planning to sell the technology to international buyers.
He dialed a number, his tone all business. “We need to secure the partnership with The James Group tomorrow.”
A steady male voice answered on the other end. “Understood.”

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
