Waldo just frowned, the whole thing striking him as ridiculous the moment he saw Catherine’s name as the plaintiff. He honestly couldn’t see what was worth investigating in this lawsuit.
But Shirley, standing next to him, felt a jolt of panic. She jumped in right away. “What’s there to double-check? Resonance AI is my project. I led the team, I have every single document, every line of code, every patent, all of it is in my hands and completely clear. This is just Nexus Dynamics slandering me and making up fake accusations. I want you to sue them, right now. Make them take responsibility and pay for the damage they’ve done to my reputation.”
Waldo waved Ted and the others off. “You all go out for now and look into the details of the complaint.”
Ted didn’t argue. He just nodded and left with his team.
As soon as they were gone, Waldo crossed his arms and stepped closer to Shirley, his eyes searching hers. “Shirley, are you absolutely sure? From the core algorithm to the whole design, did you and your team really create Resonance AI on your own?”
Shirley’s heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t expected Waldo’s first reaction would be to doubt her.
She felt a sting of hurt. “Waldo, I’ve already told you everything. Amy was the original developer, but she told me herself that her tech from back in school was open and free for anyone to use. I even have a recording of her saying that. She never accused me of stealing or anything like that. Please, you have to believe me.”
Waldo didn’t let up. “Then why is Catherine the one suing you? What does Resonance AI have to do with her?”
Shirley’s eyes flashed with anger and resentment. “You know how it’s always been between us. Catherine and I never got along, not since we were kids. She’s doing this on purpose, just to ruin me and destroy my project at The James Group. She wants revenge. That’s all this is.”
