“Or what?” Catherine shot back, her voice cold and sharp. “You stole from me, and now you’re threatening me? That’s a new low, even for you.”
Shirley sounded like a cat with its tail stepped on. “Stole from you? Since when is it yours? Is your name engraved on it? Seriously, with your skills, you really think you could have created Resonance AI?”
Catherine didn’t bother arguing. She just said, “See you in court,” and hung up without another word.
She didn’t waste time dwelling on it. Her father would deal with Alice after this mess was over. As for Shirley, Catherine would handle her personally. Both mother and daughter would spend the next ten years behind bars, at least. Catherine wasn’t in a rush, though. Their payback was coming, and none of them would get away with it.
On the other end, Shirley stared at her phone, suddenly uneasy. Why did Catherine sound so calm, so sure she could win? It was unsettling.
“Catherine, you bitch,” Shirley hissed, grinding her teeth. The failed system upgrade had already put her on edge, and now the threat of a lawsuit was about to push her over. She felt like she was losing control.
Still, she couldn’t shake this creeping sense of dread. It was as if Catherine really did have something on her.
No way. That couldn’t be. Amy was the original creator of Resonance AI. The flash drive Shirley took from the lab was Amy’s, not Catherine’s. Sure, Catherine had worked in that lab too, but it couldn’t possibly be her project. Plus, the last set of optimizations Amy gave her were a perfect fix for Resonance AI’s bugs.
Shirley grabbed her phone and played an old recording. Amy’s voice filled the room.
“I’m not going to worry about the past anymore. We all did what we could for the sake of science...”
Amy had said it herself, she wasn’t going to make a fuss. So what did any of this have to do with Catherine? Why was she coming forward now, acting like Resonance AI was hers?
Catherine let out a small laugh. “What we had? There was never anything between us worth remembering.”
Waldo’s expression darkened. “Catherine, I’m trying to help you here. Accusing my wife and my company won’t end well for you.”
He hesitated, then added, “Resonance AI belongs to Shirley. That project is everything to The James Group, and I won’t let anyone mess with it. Not even you.”
“Thanks for the warning. I’ll see you in court,” Catherine answered, then hung up before he could say anything else.
Waldo tossed his phone aside, frustration simmering beneath the surface. Catherine really had no idea what she was getting herself into.

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
