Waldo stared at his phone, the call abruptly cut off. His face clouded over. Catherine was impossible to deal with these days. Ever since Lawrence started backing her, she acted like he barely mattered.
He remembered when Catherine, for all her attitude, was just the Blair family’s daughter. That family used to rely on his favor just to get by. Now, every word out of her mouth seemed sharp, like she was daring him to react.
“See you in court?” he muttered, a bitter laugh escaping. Catherine’s threats basically echoed Nexus Dynamics’ official stance. It had to be Lawrence’s idea.
Was Lawrence really so useless he needed his own wife to shield him? Using Catherine as a pawn just to trip up his Resonance AI project?
Still, Waldo wasn’t the kind of man to lose his cool. The James Group was his empire and he’d built it by keeping a tight grip on every detail.
Yet for some reason, Catherine’s lawsuit made him uneasy. He knew her well. She wasn’t the type to go after things that didn’t belong to her. She wasn’t shameless. If she was coming for him, she must have her reasons.
He pressed the intercom. “Ted, come to my office.”
A moment later, Ted walked in holding a thick stack of papers.
“You wanted to see me, Waldo?”
“What’s that?” Waldo’s tone was cold.
“It’s the draft for the countersuit. Shirley asked me to get it ready,” Ted replied. “We’re focusing on Nexus Dynamics and Catherine for commercial defamation, unfair competition, and for seriously damaging the reputations of The James Group and Shirley.”
“Did you look over Catherine’s complaint?” Waldo asked.
But when she called, Shirley’s answer was quick and tense. “Mom, I have to work late tonight. I can’t go to dinner.”
“What? You’re about to get married and you’re still working late every night? Doesn’t Waldo care how hard you’re working?” Alice frowned, feeling sorry for her daughter. Shirley was basically already Waldo’s wife and still running herself ragged.
“Mom, something happened today. I got sued.”
“Sued? By who?” Alice was instantly worried. Who could possibly want to go after Shirley?
“Mom, you’d never guess who it is.” Shirley let out a cold little laugh, not waiting for her mom to respond. “It’s Catherine.”
“Catherine?” Alice’s voice shot up. “She’s suing you? On what grounds? Who does that girl think she is?”

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
