Even if Catherine didn’t have hard evidence, the lawsuit was bound to drag on. A year, maybe even longer. That wouldn’t do The James Group any favors.

Harrisburg.
Nestor had been in the hospital for four days now, tucked away in a private room and looked after by the best. With every treatment, he felt lighter, healthier. The heaviness in his chest was gone. For the first time in ages, he could actually breathe without feeling like something was pressing against his ribs.
The Cabinda Military Medical University really lived up to its reputation. Everything felt almost surreal, like he’d woken up in someone else’s life.
And Patrick—who would’ve thought?—was actually a general. He’d come by to check on Nestor just yesterday. The visit left Nestor feeling oddly reassured, like he wasn’t as alone as he’d thought.
He stayed in touch with Lawrence too. Just because he was recovering didn’t mean he was out of the loop. Far from it. Lawrence kept sending him photos and proof that made Alice’s betrayal painfully clear. Seeing it all laid out like that—her lies, her shamelessness—it was disgusting.
So Nestor made up his mind. He’d use his recovery as an excuse to stay far away from Alice. Let her keep digging her own grave. The more she slipped up, the easier it’d be to drag her into court and let everyone see what she’d really been up to these past ten years.
Now that he knew the truth, he didn’t feel any rush to confront her. He was content to wait. Besides, Catherine and Lawrence had their own legal battle to fight.
Waldo and Shirley were on the other side of that lawsuit, but Nestor felt nothing for either of them now. Their drama wasn’t his problem anymore. He had no intention of getting involved.
Just then, his phone buzzed. It was his assistant.
He picked up. “Yeah?”
“Nestor, Alice called. She wanted to know how you’re doing. I told her you’re still under observation.”
“Good. Don’t tell her I’m in Harrisburg.”
“Got it.”

That night, Alice was running low on cash. She’d spent a lot lately, especially after Garnett begged her into buying him a used car with her own bank card.
Now Garnett wanted to splurge on a luxury hotel. Alice reluctantly booked a room—he wanted a taste of the high life, so she gave in.
