Even if Catherine didn’t have hard evidence, the lawsuit was bound to drag on. A year, maybe even longer. That wouldn’t do The James Group any favors.

Harrisburg.
Nestor had been in the hospital for four days now, tucked away in a private room and looked after by the best. With every treatment, he felt lighter, healthier. The heaviness in his chest was gone. For the first time in ages, he could actually breathe without feeling like something was pressing against his ribs.
The Cabinda Military Medical University really lived up to its reputation. Everything felt almost surreal, like he’d woken up in someone else’s life.
And Patrick—who would’ve thought?—was actually a general. He’d come by to check on Nestor just yesterday. The visit left Nestor feeling oddly reassured, like he wasn’t as alone as he’d thought.
He stayed in touch with Lawrence too. Just because he was recovering didn’t mean he was out of the loop. Far from it. Lawrence kept sending him photos and proof that made Alice’s betrayal painfully clear. Seeing it all laid out like that—her lies, her shamelessness—it was disgusting.
So Nestor made up his mind. He’d use his recovery as an excuse to stay far away from Alice. Let her keep digging her own grave. The more she slipped up, the easier it’d be to drag her into court and let everyone see what she’d really been up to these past ten years.
Now that he knew the truth, he didn’t feel any rush to confront her. He was content to wait. Besides, Catherine and Lawrence had their own legal battle to fight.
Waldo and Shirley were on the other side of that lawsuit, but Nestor felt nothing for either of them now. Their drama wasn’t his problem anymore. He had no intention of getting involved.
Just then, his phone buzzed. It was his assistant.
He picked up. “Yeah?”
“Nestor, Alice called. She wanted to know how you’re doing. I told her you’re still under observation.”
“Good. Don’t tell her I’m in Harrisburg.”
“Got it.”

That night, Alice was running low on cash. She’d spent a lot lately, especially after Garnett begged her into buying him a used car with her own bank card.
Now Garnett wanted to splurge on a luxury hotel. Alice reluctantly booked a room—he wanted a taste of the high life, so she gave in.
She had no choice but to use her own debit card. As she watched the money leave her account, her mood soured even more.
She stared at the useless credit cards in her hand, anger rising. What was Nestor playing at? Not answering her calls was one thing, but freezing her cards with no warning? Was he really cutting her off? Was their marriage just… over?
Her phone rang. It was Garnett.
“Hey, babe, did you get the room? I’m dying to get up there.”
Alice forced herself to sound cheerful. “I’m heading up now. Come join me in a bit.”
The suite was everything Garnett had hoped for. He wandered around, gawking at every little detail, touching the furniture like it might disappear. Then he came over and wrapped his arms around Alice.
“Alice, just hang in there. Once Nestor croaks, we’re set. Billions, babe. We’ll live like this every day.”
Alice tried to laugh, but the credit card fiasco was still gnawing at her. “He’s in Harrisburg. Doesn’t look like he’s dying anytime soon.”
A chill ran through her. Something was wrong, she could feel it. She just couldn’t figure out what.

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
