Chapter 233
Third person pov
At training grounds
Shyouchets
On the training grounds of the Mooncrest Pack, the clash of steel rang through the air as Prince Adrian blocked an incoming strike from one of the royal guards with his sword. Without hesitation, he countered with a powerful kick to the man’s midsection. The guard was sent flying backward, crashing hard onto the ground several meters away. He clutched his stomach in agony, coughing up blood as he struggled to breathe.
The warriors watching the spar froze in stunned silence. Training grounds were often brutal, but they had never seen Prince Adrian like this before. He had always been calm, composed, and somewhat distant, a quiet presence who kept to himself even during intense sessions. Now he seemed like an entirely different person. His movements were sharper, more aggressive, and his eyes carried a cold, detached darkness that made everyone uneasy.
Someone in the distance swallowed nervously and muttered, “Is this really the prince? Or did someone else possess him? He is like a completely different person.”
Another warrior nodded, voice low. “Right. Tell me about it. I almost didn’t recognize our prince. And I don’t understand why? Things are going well for him. Princess Sienna is now his mate. Shouldn’t he be happy? I thought he wanted Princess Sienna. Isn’t that why he slept with her to begin with?”
A third shrugged, keeping his voice down. “Who knows. I just know that things have changed a lot in the Mooncrest Pack after Lady Selene left, and it’s not for the good.”
People around them nodded in agreement. Someone added with a sigh, “I kind of miss that curse. She might have been a curse, but she was the amusement of our pack. No one has anything to gossip about anymore. It’s boring.”
A few soft laughs followed the statement, but they died quickly when they noticed Prince Adrian’s lack of reaction. He didn’t even glance in their direction. Talking about Selene had become common in the pack, but the first time someone had spoken badly about her in front of him, Adrian had nearly killed the man. After Sienna became his official mate, however, he had forced himself to stay silent. He couldn’t defend another woman without sparking dangerous rumors, especially as the future Alpha who needed to maintain his standing.
At first, after that night with Sienna, he had refused to accept her as his mate. The pressure from his father and the entire pack had eventually forced his hand. He was the future Alpha, he had to do what was best for the pack, even if he didn’t want to. Yet even now, he couldn’t fully explain why he had resisted so strongly.
Deep down, something had shifted the moment Selene disappeared, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t go back to the person he used to be.
Out of both sisters, Sienna should have been the better choice. She was the perfect definition of what a Moonborn should be, graceful, obedient, beautiful, and politically advantageous. Even though she wasn’t his fated mate, she was the ideal candidate to become his Luna. She fit every expectation placed upon her. And yet, Prince Adrian felt nothing but emptiness when he looked at her.

Why? Why the hell was he not satisfied?

Why did his mind keep drifting back to those beautiful, defiant eyes that had once stared at him with such fire? Why did he feel like he had made a mistake he could never fix?
Adrian ran a hand through his messy hair and let out a heavy sigh, leaning against the training post as the weight of his thoughts pressed down on him. Everything he had done was for the pack. He had to do everything to protect his pack. He repeated the words to himself like a mantra, trying to convince his restless heart.
He turned his gaze back to the training grounds. The man he had just fought lay badly beaten on the dirt, groaning in pain. The other guards who usually loved to gossip now stood frozen, trembling as they avoided his eyes. No one wanted to step forward and spar with him. He had become too unpredictable, too ruthless in recent days.
Adrian’s voice cut through the silence, cold and commanding. “Another one.”
The guards took a fearful step back. None of them dared to move.
Just as Adrian was about to demand again, his beta approached from behind. His normally playful face was gone, replaced by a serious, almost nervous expression.
“Prince Adrian, I have something to tell you.”
Adrian didn’t even glance at him. “It can wait.”
His beta shook his head urgently. “N–no… you don’t understand. It cannot wait.” He took a deep breath before delivering the news. “She is back.”
Adrian paused, still not turning around. His voice remained lazy, almost indifferent. “Who?”
