Chapter 160
Ryan sighed, running a hand through his hair, trying to think of some way to make the old man loosen up. “He’s a friend of mine,” he said again, softer this time. “Old friends. I’m only trying to reach him. Someone mentioned he’d been seen around here once, and that’s the only reason I came.”
Before the landlord could respond, the low rumble of an engine cut through the quiet street. A bike pulled up right in front of them, and two men climbed off, both broad-shouldered, thick-armed, the kind of build that filled out a doorway.
The landlord’s body went rigid. He took a step back instinctively, his earlier defiance melting into something closer to fear.
The two men strode forward without hesitation, their eyes locking onto Ryan first before flicking toward the old
man.
“Is this the man?” one of them asked, voice heavy with accent, clipped and rough around the edges.
The landlord swallowed hard and shook his head quickly. “No. That isn’t him.”
“Ohh,” the man said, drawing the sound out, unconvinced. “You are lying now. Uhn.”
Ryan stood frozen, completely lost. He had no idea what was unfolding in front of him, only that the tension in the air had shifted into something dangerous.
The two men turned their full attention on him.
“So,” the first one said, stepping closer, “you are the one holding the file to this house. The one who bought it?”
Ryan blinked. “What? I don’t-”
“Our boss needs this building back,” the second man cut in, his tone flat, final, leaving no room for negotiation.
Ryan shook his head, hands raised slightly. “I think there’s some kind of mistake. I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
The first man’s jaw tightened. He exchanged a glance with his partner, then scoffed, unimpressed. “Stop playing us.”
“I’m serious,” Ryan said, keeping his voice level despite the unease crawling up his spine. “I don’t know anything about a building. I don’t understand you.”
The two are Arabians, forcing English out. The landlord was also an Englishman, but the two thugs are Arab.
That only seemed to irritate them further. The bigger of the two stepped in closer, closing the distance between them until he was nearly chest to chest with Ryan, his presence looming, deliberate, meant to intimidate.
“You think we are stupid?” he growled, accent thick, words clipped short with menace.
Ryan held his ground, though every instinct told him this was escalating fast. “Look, I really-”
Before he could finish, the man shoved him hard in the chest, forcing him back a step. “Talk,” he barked. “Or we make you talk.”
Then landlord chimed in and said, “He knew nothing, if you could just calm down!”.
The landlord’s protest did nothing to slow them down. If anything, it seemed to embolden the first man further. He lunged forward, fingers reaching to grab a fistful of Ryan’s shirt.

Ryan moved before the man’s hand ever closed. A quick sidestep, a flick of his arm, and the man’s grip found nothing but air, his own momentum spinning him half a step off balance.
The man’s face twisted in disbelief, then fury. He scoffed loudly, muttering something under his breath before squaring up again, clearly ready to try a second time, harder.
Ryan didn’t give him the chance.
The moment the man stepped in, Ryan moved with practiced efficiency, closing the gap instead of retreating from it. A sharp strike to the ribs made the man double over with a strangled gasp. Before he could recover, Ryan caught his wrist and twisted, the joint bending at an angle it was never meant to reach. A sickening crack followed, and the man howled, staggering back, cradling his hand against his chest.
The second thug, seeing his partner crumple, surged forward with a snarl, swinging wide. Ryan ducked beneath the blow easily, feeling the air displace just above his head, and countered with a swift elbow that connected solidly against the man’s jaw. The impact snapped his head sideways, and he stumbled, dazed, before Ryan followed with another precise strike to the side that dropped him to one knee.
Both men groaned, clutching their injuries, their earlier bravado completely gone. The confidence that had carried them off the bike moments ago had evaporated entirely, replaced by something far more cautious as they eyed Ryan like he was suddenly a different kind of threat altogether.
“You are done for,” the first one spat between gritted teeth, still cradling his wrist. “You dare come to our country and cause trouble. Our boss will feast on you.’
