Chapter 202
“Kingston,” Rowan warns from the passenger seat, his voice trembling with panic.
I move over, pushing against the door. “I should have thrown him over the bridge,” I mumble to myself. “And next time, please call the person he is really yearning for,” I tell Rowan, irritated by the entire situation.
“He’s drunk, he doesn’t know what he’s saying.” Rowan says, “ignore him.”
Drunk or not, he knows exactly what he is saying, his drunken words are his sober thoughts, and he’s thinking of her right now. I guess we aren’t past the whole suprise fated bond.
“I should have married her when I had the chance,” he groans, “But you can’t marry a fourteen-year-old even if you’re both underage. Just stupid laws, stupid world.” He slams his head against the seat. “I miss my girl.”
“As of tomorrow, you can go back to her.” I snap, keeping my gaze out the window, watching the world pass me by like it has for years.
“I miss my girl,” he repeats. “Do you think she ever thinks about me? I’m scared to check on her, she’s living her life now.” He pauses, his voice cracking, like he truly is heartbroken. “I don’t know how to forget her, I love her so much, I would give anything to have my Siren back.”
Siren?
Rowan lets out an audible sigh of relief and I turn, finally looking at him. It’s me. He’s talking about me, but he is too drunk to recognise me next to him. It doesn’t make sense, he hasn’t looked at me twice.
Kingston scoots closer to me, leaning forward. “Rowan,” he calls, tapping his shoulder repeatedly. “Hey, can I break the rules? Just this once, call Marvin, I want to know.” He says, his tone pleading. “Just once, I promise I’ll førget her this time.”
“What do you want to do?” Rowan asks with a sigh, not bothering to look back at him.
“I want to call Aeliana,” Kingston says, whispering my name. “Do you think she’d talk to me? Call her, I’ll simply hear her voice, I won’t say a word.”
Oh God.
Now I feel like shit, but he was the one in the wrong.
“Kingston,” I coo.
“I can already hear her,” he whispers.
Rowan laughs, “Maybe try to look next to you.
He moves back, his eyes scanning me up and down.
“Hey, you look a lot like my Siren. Don’t worry, it’s a compliment.” He smiles, but something dark and sad flickers in his eyes. He’s staring at me as if seeing me for the first time. I watch him watch me. “You have her eyes,” he almost whispers.
“I do?”
He nods, “The prettiest eyes I’ll never see again, and she’ll give them to another man’s child someday.” He groans, dropping his face in his hands, the palms digging into his eyes. “Oh gods, kill me now!”
He stays that way for a while, shaking his head, and when he finally straightens, he moves forward. “Row, I need

help again. I can’t do this anymore.” He says, clutching his chest, but it is mine that melts. “I need her, I don’t know how long I’ll run after women who look like her.”
Rowan laughs, “Oh you’re going to hate chattering when you’re sober. Sit back.”
He does.
He sits back, watching me once again. “My Aeliana,” he says, whispering only my name. “She had eyes exactly like that, the kind that hold so much emotion. I’m glad she’s gone because she was a sad girl here.”
I gulp, his words cut me open, reminding me that no one has ever known me the way that he does. No matter how hard I pretend or hide, he will always see through me, I’m as transparent to him as glass. “Miss, are you a sad girl? You look like a sad girl too, who hurt you? Pretty girls shouldn’t hurt. Oh, wow, you even have the same little wide stare as my Siren.”
The car comes to a screeching stop, and I can’t run out of the car fast enough. Rowan opens Kingston’s door and orders him to come out. He staggers a little when he does, holding onto the car. “Let’s get inside before he causes a scene.”
Rowan tries to help him, but this time, Kingston doesn’t just decline, he tries to punch him, but Rowan moves out of the way just in time.
“Kingston, what the hell?” Rowan hisses.
“What are you doing?” He demands.
“Taking you in the house, you idiot.”
“No, I can’t go home, Rowan you know that.” he slurs, shaking his head. “I can’t stay there when she doesn’t want me anywhere close.”
“For crying out loud, get in the house,” I order, my tone unintentionally loud.
Kingston freezes at that, his brain seems to recognise the command just as he had earlier. Now that we’re fully bonded, he recognises every command, and he heeds it without intention. “Aeliana, I’m sorry baby.” He says, staggering towards me. “I was an idiot, I am so stupid.”
