Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 217

Chapter 217

“You are not wrong about me,” I shake my head, not taking the fall for Kingston’s action. “We are friends, Noah, all of us are friends,” I tell her, gesturing around the table, including the woman I barely know but will likely be seeing more of. “I promise, ladies. You can trust me, but Noah-I just can’t believe my brother did that. There must be a good explanation for this, and you’re getting it, A.”

Aeliana shakes her head, “Im tired, Damien. First that fucking creep touched me, and now…I hate my miserable life.”

“You have a great life,” Noah says, grabbing her arms. Forcing her to face her. “I won’t let you lead a miserable one, you hear? I’ll kill that man if he thinks to hurt you again.”

Okay, Noah doesn’t exactly scare me, but the things she says are alarming, and the look in her eyes when she talks makes them land heavy, promising even.

“Come on, I’ll drive you home, and he’s going to come up with an explanation. A damn good one or his face will meet my fist too.”

She pauses, her head tilting. “Do I appear desperate?”

“No, A. But hear him out, please. For me.”

“So why is he treating me like I am?” She swallows, “If your brother can’t give me a reasonable honest explanation I’m done, Damien. I’m fucking done with him, and I’m burning him out of my life.”

Noah rubs her back. “I’ll hand you the lighter, my Ellie. He will not play games with your emotions like this.”

I slap a hand on the table, “That’s the spirit, he needs to explain, and I’m sure he will. You just have to hear him out, Aeliana.”

“You know what? That Audrey is a problem,” Noah sucks her teeth. “You need to kill her.”

“Whoa,” I laugh. What is it with this girl wanting to actively kill someone, if anyone causes her a slight inconvenience, her first reaction is to take off with their heads! “Slow down there, hellion.”

She pauses, her nose scrunching up. “Don’t call me that, and what else do you suppose can be done? How else will the blondie problem go away?”

“Kill her,” Aeliana responds.

“See,” Noah’s eyes light up. I fear for whoever ends up with her. “Even she agrees.”

“No, she does not❞ I groan, massaging my temples. “She’s drunk.”

“I can’t kill her,” Aeliana sighs, as if bored by the idea. “I can’t push her away either because he wants her more every time. He couldn’t handle the boundaries he set,” she says, laughing, truly wholly laughing. “Your brother wanted her so badly he broke his promise to me, again. I’m just a pile of second choice, and shattered promises.”

“Hey, you are not the second choice,” I argue, “You’re his first, he chose you. He would have gone for Audrey if he wanted her, but he wants you not her.”

“You’re defending him.” She says, her tone calm, but the look she gives me is far from it.

“I’m not,” I raise my hands in defeat. “You know how stubborn my brother is, his way or the highway. He’d have chosen her over you if he wanted her, regardless of the outcome.” I say, offering her a smile, but she doesn’t bother trying to return it. “Now, let’s go home so he can explain himself, and let’s maybe not tell him about the

kiss-kisses tonight.”

I gather everyone out the door, buying them each a cocktail for the road. The drive is mostly quiet, Stacey-yes, finally learned her name. She asks me to drop her off at her boyfriend’s house which happens to be on our way to the packhouse. Noah on the other hand chooses to go with Aeliana.

I text Kingston to meet us downstairs when I arrive at the packhouse. It doesn’t take long for him to arrive. Aeliana, Noah and I stand in a straight line, which reminds me of boy bands, and I almost laugh, but the situation doesn’t allow it.

Kingston pauses a few feet away, his smile replaced with concern the moment he sees her. “Aeliana.”

“Talk to her,” Noah demands, arms crossed over her chest. “And you better make it good Alpha boy, or I’m cutting you open with my tweezers.”

Kingston frowns, “What?” He asks, his eyes flickering between us all.

“Aeliana saw you at Rivers tonight,” I tell him.

His eyes widen, and I see the exact moment the things he did flash through his mind. “Oh, fuck. I…”

“Explain yourself really well, and if she cries? You’re dead to her, and everyone else because I will murder you, she tells him. “And Damien will help, right?”

My response is instant, we had this conversation in the car, in shockingly gruesome detail that would rattle a serial killer, and my choices are either accomplice, or second victim, and I have kids whom I want to see grow. I’ll hide the body.” I nod.

Kingston sighs, “Let’s talk.”

Aeliana moves instantly, refusing to take his help as she walks up the stairs. He looks over his shoulder and gives me one last look, the I didn’t do it look, but I saw the evidence, I couldn’t defend it.

“Good enough,” Noah sighs, crashing on the sofa like she lives here. “I’ll be waiting here.”

“Goodnight, I have to go, but call me,” I tell her, not wanting to miss the resolution or fallout of this mess.

Noah nods, “Call? Won’t your wife be upset?”

“River?” I snicker. “No, she knows I’m all about her.”

“So was your brother,” she scoffs. “Hell, at least he claimed he was all about my Ellie. Who knows, maybe cheating is genetic, no?”

“No,” I frown. “Our father worships my mom, I worship River, that woman is my life, really. And King worships A too, he’d die for that woman, I just don’t know why or what happened tonight.”
