Her response is instant, “Yes, her.”
I nod.

Danielle doesn’t seem to like Noah. I’ve known it from the beginning, and that might have to do with Rowan tailing her. I tried to put someone else on Noah, but he refused. He said she’s just a girl, and honestly, I doubt if she would listen to anyone else!
Her eyes shift and I mirror them, landing on Rowan now. “Oh crap, I think I’m going to be sick.”
“Because Rowan hugged Noah and Ellie?” I frown, eyes shifting back to Danielle.
“No,” she clutches her stomach, her face twisting. “I think something’s wrong with the wings I ate on the way here, they were pretty cold.”
“Okay,” I set my drink on a passing waiter’s tray and offer her a hand to lean on. “Why don’t we sit down. Come on,” I say, trying to help her to an empty table I see.
We are halfway there when she groans, “My stomach is rumbling.”
I can’t help but laugh now, Danielle can be very dramatic sometimes, and this happens to be one of those times. ” You’re hungry, Danielle.”
“Yeah, but-” She straightens, as if realising she isn’t in any pain. “I’ll get something to eat.” She declares, changing route.
I shake my head, I wish my mate had the same enthusiasm for food, but she forgets to eat if she’s busy by chance. A familiar face catches my eye, and I grab Danielle’s arm, stopping her from going forward. “Wait.”
“Huh?”
“Audrey is coming this way,” I whisper. “Stay with me.”
Danielle is about to escape me, but I keep a firm hand on her arm. “Kingston,” she gasps, trying to wiggle out of my grip.
Please, Aeliana is on the other side of the room, I can’t be seen alone with her.”
Danielle looks over her shoulder, “She’s with someone, you’ll be the three of you.” She grunts, yanking her hand free.
Audrey keeps getting closer, “Danielle, that’s an Alpha’s order.” I gritt through my teeth.
“Oh my God,” she gasps, “You are…hi Drey!” She says, her tone very hid now. “Nice dress.”
“Thanks,” Audrey flips her hair, “You look good yourself.”
“Please,” Danielle snickers, “I’m bloated like a whale,”
“All in your head,” Audrey tells her, touching her hair. “You look beautiful.”
My eyes turn to the man next to Audrey, I don’t seem to know him, but he smells like pack so he isn’t one of the out-of-town guests. “Alpha Kingston,” Audrey softly says.
Alpha?

My eyes widen, since when does she refer to me as Alpha? And that too in Aeliana’s absence. “This is my date, Jamie.” She tells me, hooking her arm in his.
“Your date?” Danielle asks, her tone filled with disbelief.
“Nice to meet you,” I nod at them, not knowing him enough to shake his hand.
He grins, bowing slightly. “Pleasure is mine, Alpha.”
“Excuse us,” she says, leading him away. “Look, Jamie boo, there’s seafood.”
“Jamie boo?” I frown.
“When did Audrey get a boyfriend?” Danielle asks, “I’ve been seeing pictures of this guy for the past two days.”
“What kind of pictures?”
She raises an eyebrow, “Are you jealous?”
“Curious,” I admit. It’s hardly been a week since she tried to end her life because of me, and now she has a boyfriend? “I’m mated and married,” I say, flashing her my ring so she doesn’t get any ideas.
“Easy,” she laughs. “I’m married too, longer than you.”
“I’ve been bonded longer than you’ve known Rowan.”
Danielle scoffs, her jaw dropping. “Oh, my. Since when are you this competitive over…what are we even doing?”
“Nothing,” I laugh, shaking my head. “We were talking about Drey.”
“Look at them,” she nods over at the buffet. I mirror her gaze to that section just in time to catch a glimpse of Audrey feeding her date an oyster. “She’s happy?” Danielle asks, her voice unsure.
I nod, she’s laughing, her head falling back so free it feels performative. “Looks like it,” I say, looking away.
“I don’t get it,” Dani sighs. “She was in love with you last time I checked. What changed?”
“Whatever it is, I’m grateful.”
“You sure?” She asks, studying me intently. “This relationship feels new, like newer than that fish,” she snickers, pointing to the mini aquarium on the other side of the room, “And it seems fresh out of the ocean.”
“Dani,” I warn.
“What if she brought him here to make you jealous? Show you what you’re missing? Have you seen that dress?”
I slowly shake my head, “Didn’t pay it any mind.” I honestly say, “I’m missing nothing, have you seen my mate? Over there,” I say, turning her in Aeliana’s direction, “Oh,” I grunt. Aeliana is carrying one of the kids from the orphanage while showing something to a guest, and she looks good, Better than anyone here, her smile is unbelievable, stunning.
