“Excuse me,” I say, walking away from her. She just ruined a perfectly good day for me because she couldn’t mind her own business. Aeliana and I haven’t discussed children yet, but I think it’s about time we started.

“What did I do wrong?” She gasps, obviously asking Rowan because he stays.

“Nothing, he’d rather be mad at you than her.” He tells her, “Choose a lighter approach next time or stay out of it.”

“I was just trying to-”

I don’t hear the rest of her explanation and I don’t need to, the intent was good, but I would have preferred she kept it from me. My wolf is raging. Today started perfectly great with Aeliana in my arms. Even with how badly she kicked my ass at War Veteran, I was going into the rest of my day with a good mood.

But it’s okay, to hell with it.

I don’t have to go to the mini clinic to find Aeliana, she’s in the passenger seat of Noah’s car. I stop when I’m within earshot. “Aeliana,” I call, my voice softer than it was a minute ago, despite how unsettled I am by her making decisions without me.

She pauses, waving at me. “Hey, honey.”

“Can we talk?”

“Yeah?” She frowns. “Do you need something?”

I simply nod, and so does she. “Okay, just give me a few minutes.”

“I’ll be upstairs,” I tell her, not clarifying where exactly but she knows I’m talking about her bedroom, it’s the only room she’s interested in upstairs.

When I get back inside, Rowan and Audrey are chatting in the spot that Noah and Aeliana sat in during our game this morning. I don’t say anything to them, I head upstairs to wait for Aeliana.

I have a good five to ten minutes to gather my thoughts and think of how to rationally approach the matter before Aeliana comes up. “Sorry I took so long, Noah was trying to talk me into applying at VU, again.” she sighs, dropping a paper bag on the lamp stand near her door. “What’s wrong?” She pauses.

“What’s this about abortions?” I ask, all the rational approaches I had thought of earlier suddenly gone from my

mind.

Aeliana frowns, “Excuse me?”

“Did you go to see Maddox?”

“Yes, did he say something?” Her eyes widen. “Jesus, he couldn’t wait five minutes before he came running to you?”

“He didn’t,” I assure her. “I overheard it from somewhere else, but that’s not important. I want you to tell me why abortion would be your first choice the second that you think you’re pregnant.”

“I don’t think I’m pregnant,” she scoffs. “And whoever told you has a big mouth.” She says with an eyeroll. ” Seriously, that conversation was between me, my Noah, and my doctor, Maddox.” She snaps, arms crossing over her chest. “What exactly are they trying to achieve by telling you that?”

“I reprimanded the person,” I tell her, clearing my throat. “Let’s circle back to the conversation.”

She sighs, watching me for a moment before she speaks. I know she’s looking to catch my opinion in my body language, but I give her nothing. I want to hear her, uninfluenced by what she thinks I want to hear. “We’re not in a good place in our lives right now, but we’re getting there, and I don’t think we’re there yet like Rowan and Danielle. They’ve been together a while.” She says, her voice dropping with every word.

“Come here,” I pat my leg, waiting for her. She doesn’t hesitate, she sinks comes closer, sinking into my lap with both her hands in hers. “I’ve known you for as long as I can remember, and that has nothing to do with how ready you are to have my baby.”

She swallows. I’m guessing this isn’t a conversation she wants to have because her heart starts racing. “I guess so.”

“We’re still really young, siren,” I tell her, smoothing my hand over her head. “I know we haven’t discussed children yet, but I don’t need a baby just because Rowan is getting one. This isn’t a sports car, a new sword or gun, it’s bigger than that.”

“But you want one,” she says.
