I’m running out of patience, and I have no idea how to make her happy once again. She sniffs, “Nothing.”
“Why don’t we stay here for a while?” I offer, giving her the only thing I can right now, my time.
She pulls away, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. “You have plans.”
“They can wait,” I say, pushing past the discomfort that seeing her cry is putting me in. “I want to stay with you.”
“I just don’t know what to do, I wish I could have said goodbye to him.”
“I’ll arrange for it.” I immediately declare, “You’ll see him again, I promise. You’ll have your chance at goodbye, so dry those tears.”
She sniffs. “I’m going to miss him.” She says, her tone low and crushed.
I sigh, watching her. She’s no longer sobbing out loud, but the tears keep spilling free. “Do you want to hear me play piano?”
She pauses, “You don’t play.”
“Of course I do,” I smile. I haven’t touched the piano in years, but I remember how much she used to love it when I played. I learned to play several instruments, but the piano grew on me, it’s my favourite, and hers too. “When my wife is sad, I’ll play any and everything that she’d like me to, but I need you to stop crying.”
“Okay.” She nods, the tears instantly gone. How does she do that? I know she wants to cry still, but the second that I ask her to stop, she blinks them back, and her eyes are empty again.
I rise, carrying her to the music room because I’ll be dammed if I let her walk around the house barefoot. I hoped she would learn to wear her shoes by now, but no, Lexie still chases after her with shoes, she has a pair hidden in every room that Aeliana likes to be in.
The music room is clean, everything is orderly, and I sit Aeliana on a stool beside the piano. My fingers hesitate for a moment, unsure if I can still hit the notes right, but when I look at her, I don’t care much for perfection anymore. I simply let my fingers dance around the keys, trying it out before I start to play a tune impeded in my soul, one of our favourite ones.
Aeliana stays still, barely breathing while I play. Only when I’m done does she speak, “I love how you play,” she says, clapping for me like I just finished the concert of a lifetime but I hardly played for five minutes
I wink at her, “Very talented with my fingers, no?”
That gets a laugh out of her, one that leaves a smile on her lips,”Very.” She nods. “You’d make a good pianist.”
“Maybe,” I shrug. “But I don’t like it enough to dedicate my life to it.”
“You used to be passionate about it,”
“The only thing I’m passionate about is you.”
She frowns, her head tilting. “So I’m just a possession to you? You called me a thing.”
“What?” I gasp, my heart constricting. “No, I…for fucks sake, Siren, I didn’t mean it in any derogatory form, I just
She bursts out laughing, swinging her feet off the stool. “Relax,” she laughs, covering her mouth with her hand. ” I’m messing with you.”

“You made my heart jump,” I swallow, heart still racing from the fright pissing her off gave me. I just got her to smile after what felt like hours of sobbing on my chest, and I wasn’t ready for her to be mad.
“You’ll live.” She says, smiling still. “You should have seen your face.”
“I’d rather not,” I say with a deep breath. “I was on the brink of death right there.”
“You’re so dramatic.”
“You have no idea how traumatising it is for me.”
“Aww,” she pouts. “Did I make you mad?”
I shrug, “Nothing a kiss can’t fix.” I sigh. “One kiss from you is enough to wash away all my sorrows, all my worries, and ignite all my fire.”
Her cheeks flush, red spraying all of her face. “Stop, you’ll make my head grow big.”
“And I’ll love you still,” I blow her a kiss.
She goes quiet, every time she tries to say it back, the words seem to fail her. I smile, I’ve heard her say it already, her subconscious keeps spilling it to me almost every night she’s in my arms. I thought she was rambling nonsense at first but after listening closely, I’ve heard her say she loves me, sometimes its just two words, sometimes one, but once, she said all three, and I swear my heart grew three sizes that night.
“Do you have a song request?” I ask, clearing the awkward silence between us.
“Yes,” she nods. “Play me ring around the rosie or the monkey song,” she beams. “The one where they jump off the bed, Calen loved it.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want you to start bawling again.”
“I’m fine,” she rolls her eyes. “I just had a shitty night, and I was looking forward to having a distraction.”
“A distraction from what?”
“Nothing.” She swallows. “Nothing in particular, but Calen is good at centering ones attention. So I wanted to see him, and when sister Milan said he was adopted I guess I threw a tantrum.” she snickers. “Not my finest moment, sorry I got snot on you,”
I shrug, “Glad you did. How else will everyone know their tough luna is a big baby around her mate?”.
Her eyes widen, “Take it off, we are burning it.”
“It’s one of my prized possessions so no thank you, Siren.” I grin. “You’re not getting this off me.”
Her lips curve into a smile, small yet so confident. “You forget how easy it is for me to do that,” she says. “I can have you utterly nude right now, Alpha Kingston.”
I’ve never moved so fast, I begin to unbutton my shirt. “Yes, Luna.”
“Stop,”
,” she laughs. “I didn’t say get nude, what is wrong with you?”
“When my wife says nude? I get excited.” I shrug. “You wouldn’t get it unless you were married to you.”
“That’s fine,” she sighs. “I like who I’m married to.”
