Chapter 276
Class goes smoothly, the students are very respectful and participate well in the class discussion. At the end of class, I collect thirty group assignments which I immediately dump in the passenger seat of my car. The excitement is too vast, I start marking them right there in the school parking lot, and once I start, I don’t stop. I mark six before I notice it’s getting dark, and I have to head home.
On my way, I swing by my favourite bakery and grab thirteen dozen doughnuts, eleven of which I drop off at the foundation, and two I carry home to share with everyone who wished me luck before I left this morning.
I’m on my way back to the packhouse when I get a call from Kingston. “Hey,” I smile, putting it on speaker.
“Hey, Siren, how was your day?”
“Good, “I smile wider, recalling my class. “And slightly overwhelming, but it’s over, I’m on my way home right now. I just had to swing by the foundation first.”
“Listen, I know I said I’d be home when you arrived, but..” he trails off. “I’m running a bit late at the Vale logistics, I have a few things to sort out since Callum is out of town, but-”
“That’s fine,” I smile to myself, a little disappointed that he won’t be waiting out front for me, but I can wait for him later, guaranteed he’ll let me know when he’s coming. “Take your time, I guess.”
“I’m sorry, Siren, I’ll be home soon. I promised you a celebration, and I’ll give you just that.” He says.
“Okay,” I nod. “See you later then,” I say, ending the call.
I guess Kingston not being home gives me enough time to rest and refresh. I’ve been out all day, so I’ll take that much-needed shower that I was planning on having with him later.
I drive a little slower knowing he isn’t home, but with my car, that’s a joke, I arrive home quickly, and the first
thing that I do is call Noah to let her know I’m home. She answers pretty quickly, but I let her go when I hear how sleepy she is.
I notice Seraphine, Audrey, and her husband are sitting out on the porch when I arrive, and to avoid them, I take the back door. “Good evening, Luna.” Elisabeth greets me, her gaze falling to my full hands. “Let me take that,” she says, rushing to take the doughnuts off my hands.
“Thank you.” I smile, “Those are actually for you guys, share with the other staff but keep some for Rowan and Danielle.” I tell her, “None for King, he doesn’t like them.”
She nods, “Yes, Luna.”
“Thanks, and keep one for Lexie, is she back yet?” I ask, remembering I dropped her off at her cousin’s house this morning, but she said she would be back later tonight.
“Yes, Luna, but Miss Seraphine asked her to do the laundry.”
I nod, walking away.
I intend to go to my room, but something catches my eye in the hallway. Rose petals, white and red petals that are scattered across the marble floor, creating what appears to be a trail leading towards the smaller dining room that we have been using over the past couple of days.
My lips curve into a smile, this is what he was planning for me? A dinner? My smile grows wider with each step. Why did he lie and say he wasn’t home? I bet he was trying to catch me off guard, but it’s my turn. I follow the rose petals, the sound of classical music buzzing louder the closer I get. When I enter the room, I’m met with a

fully adorned table, unlit candles, a large bouquet of mixed flowers on what I assume is my seat and my favourite a gift bag at the edge of the table. However, there is no sign of Kingston anywhere.
The lights go out when I reach the middle of the room, I immediately turn to leave, having no source of light, but my body slams into something hard. “King?” I gasp, being turned around and pinned against the wall. Citrus floods my nostrils, heavy Citrus, so much so that I can’t scent his, natural scent. “Did you fall in a pool of orange juice?” I laugh, “Sweet scent, but it’s not you, Honey boy.”
He doesn’t speak, I feel his hand around my neck, the knuckles brushing against me, but I don’t feel his skin, I feel a barrier-gloves. “What is this?” I snicker. “A new kink?” I ask. “Is that why you turned the lights off?”
