Chapter 278

KINGSTON

I had a beautiful night planned for Aeliana but I couldn’t make it back on time. The moment Rowan’s car pulls up in the driveway, I run out, leaving before the car comes to a full stop.

Aeliana hasn’t answered a single one of my texts or calls since the last time we spoke, a little over an hour ago. ” Hey baby,” I coo, carefully stepping into her room. I try to turn her lights on, but they don’t go on. I noticed half the lights on this wing are turned off. “Where are you?” I stalk further into the room, searching for her in the dark. “I can scent you, Aeliana, don’t be a tease, let me see you,” I beg, unable to last even ten minutes without grovelling. I follow her scent to her closet, and I catch sight of her silhouette in there.

A wide smile spreads on my lips when I see her, “I’ve missed you all day.” I tell her, brushing my hand over her hair. “Why are you hiding in here?”

“Don’t touch me!” She screams, her voice strained.

“Kingston,” I hear Rowan calling. “You forgot her gift.”

I step away for a moment, and Rowan shines his phone’s flashlight on me, handing me the gift that I picked up at the last minute to help make it up to Aeliana for being late. “Caleb is taking a look at the fuse box, but where’s Aeliana?”

I nod towards the closet. “Really?” Rowan snickers.

“Yeah,” I sigh. “She’s giving me the silent treatment.”

“Luna Ellie, I hear you’re upset.” He says, “But aren’t you a little too old to be hiding in closets? You’re not six anymore. Come on out.”

“No,” Aeliana quietly says.

“Come on, give him a break.” Rowan sighs, “He wanted to come early, but it just wasn’t possible.”

“Hear that, baby?” I ask, peeking into the darkness again. “I tried, I’m sorry I took so long but things—”

“Hold on,” Rowan pushes me away, shining the light in the closet. “What’s that sound?”

When I come back into frame I’m face-to-face with Aeliana, she looks dishevelled, her hair is matted, and her chest is rapidly rising and falling. There’s no sound coming out of her mouth, but I recognise the terror from the last time it happened.

I drop down beside her, scooping her into my arms and holding her against my chest. “Aeliana, breathe,” I tell her, realising she’s having yet another attack. “I need you to breathe.”

She doesn’t speak, she doesn’t move, her lips part, and her eyes glaze over right before me. She collapses in my arms. Panic floods my brain, and I shake her limp body. “Aeliana.”

“What just happened?” Rowan gasps, the light in his hand shaking.

I scoop her into my arms, “Fuck, I need to get her to the hospital.” I tell her, rushing to walk out the door, navigating through the dark by memory. Rowan comes with me, walking in front of me.

She smells like citrus, but the scent does nothing to calm my nerves.

I get in the backseat of my Rowan’s car while he drives. The whole time, I keep trying to wake Aeliana, but she doesn’t stir, her breathing is shallow, like she’s fading right before my eyes.

Time has never moved this slow, I’m getting flashbacks from the night she wrecked my car, the way I felt I lost her. The feeling returns, it’s suffocating, and every second that passes with her unconscious feels like an eternity.

When we arrive at the hospital, I take Aeliana inside, people surround me, eyes staring wide at their Luna’s limp body in my arms. “Where’s Maddox?”

Vivian, a nurse who lives in the packhouse steps forward. “Surgery, but-”

“Get her a doctor,” Rowan orders. “Now, any doctor, hurry.”

Two nurses wheel over a stretcher and I put her down, her body waned. “Please be okay, baby” I whisper, my forehead against hers. “Aeli..”

A doctor appears at my left, immediately examining Aeliana. “What happened to her?” He asks, checking her heartbeat.

I don’t know what happened to her, I don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Rowan does, he speaks on my behalf. ” She was having a panic attack, and she passed out,” he tells him. “It’s not been long, roughly fifteen minutes.”

“Okay, rush her to the emergency room.” He tells the nurses. “Put her on oxygen, fast.”

The moment they start wheeling her away, I move too, but at the door, the doctor blocks my way, and I watch as they take her away. “Move,” I command, fury already burning in my bones.

“You can’t go in, Alpha.” He swallows. “It’s…”

“What the hell do you mean I can’t go in?” I snap, “That’s my mate.”
