“I’m fine.” Rebecca took a few deep breaths and patted her chest. “Probably just low blood sugar. I got up way too early.”
Shawn felt a wave of guilt. He’d been so caught up in himself, he hadn’t even checked how she was feeling.
He took her to grab some milkshake. The moment Rebecca had a few sips, her dizziness disappeared. She looked at him, both surprised and a little annoyed. “Why didn’t you tell me about this earlier? It’s so good!”
Shawn just laughed and shook his head. “Way too much sugar. Not something you should have all the time.”
Most of the shops were new to her, but for some reason, it all felt weirdly familiar, almost like coming home. Maybe, before she lost her memory, she and Shawn used to come here a lot.
The street food was amazing. Rebecca filled up just sampling different snacks, so much that she didn’t even feel like having lunch. She was about to suggest somewhere else to go and walk it off when she noticed Shawn checking his phone.
Seriously? They were supposed to be on a date, and he was still glued to work. Typical workaholic.
Thinking about work made her a little anxious. She scratched her head and looked at him. “Hey, do you think I can get my ID replaced? If I can sort that out, I can finally get a job.”
Shawn smiled but didn’t answer. Instead, he looked at her for a moment. “Come on. Let’s go to this bistro.”
Rebecca patted her full belly, which was already stretched with snacks. But then she realized Shawn had been with her all morning and hadn’t eaten a thing. She nodded right away. “Sure.”
The restaurant was busy, with people coming and going. Rebecca sat across from Shawn, resting her chin in her hand and quietly watching him eat. He was so elegant, even just sitting there with his meal. She couldn’t help but think, not only is he good-looking, but even the way he eats is kind of mesmerizing. No wonder the landlord’s granddaughter was always after him.
Shawn glanced up and caught her staring. Rebecca felt her face get hot and quickly looked away.
“So, um…” She scrambled to change the subject. “Tell me about our past? I really want to know what kind of person I am.”
Shawn wiped his mouth with a napkin and was quiet for a while before he finally spoke. “Let me tell you a story.”
Rebecca’s eyes lit up. She loved stories. “What kind of story?”
He thought for a second. “It’s about a poor guy who spent eight years by the side of a rich girl, all to get revenge for his first love.”
Rebecca’s face brightened. “Oh, I know this one! And then the poor guy falls in love with the rich girl, right?”
Shawn gave a little smile, but it was sad. “No. He falls in love with someone else.”
Rebecca blinked. That was not how her favorite dramas went. She sat up straighter. “Okay, start from the beginning.”
