Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 301

Stephen was startled. He realized what she meant. She was just trying to return the favor, to thank him for his help.

The light in his eyes faded.

“Yeah, just do what you can,” he said, his voice a little rough.

The rain was letting up, but it didn’t look like it would stop anytime soon. The sky was getting darker by the minute, and neither of them wanted to just sit around and wait for something to change.

They stood up and headed for the cave entrance. Stephen noticed after a few steps that Rebecca wasn’t keeping up. He turned around, confused.

That’s when he saw her limping, her ankle clearly hurt. She must have twisted it on a rock before they’d ducked into the cave. Typical Rebecca. She was too stubborn to say anything, just gritting her teeth and forcing herself to keep going.

Stephen let out a sigh. He walked back, gently put the umbrella in her hand, and then picked her up, cradling her in his arms.

Rebecca almost yelped. “What are you—”

“I’ll carry you. It’ll be quicker. You just hold the umbrella.”

Rebecca lowered her eyes and nodded. “Okay.”

She held onto the umbrella, every now and then reminding him to watch his step. It didn’t take long before they left the overgrown, narrow path and reached the main road with wide, stone steps.

The sky was almost completely dark now. Mist curled around the mountain, and the road seemed to disappear into the clouds. The monastery up ahead must have closed its doors a while ago.

Rebecca let out a quiet sigh.

Stephen glanced at her, like he could read her mind. “I’ll come with you again tomorrow morning.”

They still had free time before the bus was set to leave after lunch. Rebecca nodded. “Okay.”

As they made their way down the mountain, they bumped into Paul. He was holding an umbrella, but he was still half-soaked, rainwater dripping from his jacket.

Paul looked exhausted, but as soon as he spotted Rebecca, he perked up and rushed over. “Are you alright? Did you get hurt?”

Rebecca took in his soaked hair and the water running off his shoulders, and her feelings got all tangled up for a moment.
