Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 462

Yeah, she’d ask him about his teenage years then. That’d be the perfect chance.

Stephen arched an eyebrow, his Adam’s apple shifting as he swallowed. “Of course. I love that my girlfriend wants to come see my place.” His eyes sparkled with mischief, making Rebecca’s cheeks blaze.

She shot him a look, trying to sound annoyed. “What are you thinking about?”

“The same thing you are.”

She huffed. “You…”

Stephen grinned, softening his tone. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing. But seriously, nothing else happened today?”

Rebecca thought for a moment, then told him about the disagreement she’d had with Brett at the morning meeting. “Oh, and I almost forgot. Cindy and Jon are acting super weird. Like, suspiciously weird.” Her eyes lit up at the memory. She’d wanted to gossip about it all day, but her mom’s emergency call had cut her off. Now, with someone to spill to, she couldn’t hold it in.

Stephen smiled. “That’s all?”

Rebecca tapped her chin. “Yep. That’s it. Nothing else.” She couldn’t tell if she was imagining it, but for just a second, she thought she saw something dark flicker in Stephen’s eyes.

After they hung up, Stephen’s smile vanished. He stared at a photo on his phone, his expression turning cold. So now Paul wanted to play dirty? Trying to come between him and Rebecca? He clearly didn’t know who he was dealing with.

The next day, Rebecca headed to work. She’d barely had time to warm her seat when a message pinged her phone. It was from the HR manager downstairs.

“Ms. Harper, I wanted to apologize in advance.”

Rebecca frowned, confused. “For what?”

“I can’t say yet. I just wanted to let you know I’m sorry. Some things are out of my control.”

Rebecca guessed it was probably Brett again, pulling strings. “Don’t worry, I understand.”
