If they wouldn't give it to her.
She would just have to find it herself.
But Raelynn hadn't expected this.
Panting heavily as she pushed open the courtyard doors, she ran straight into the Matriarch's loyal old butler.
The old man looked kind enough, but his eyes were sharp and calculating. "Mrs. Croix? What brings you here?"
In that moment, a suffocating wave of helplessness washed over her.
She knew her plan had failed.
The butler would never let her inside to search.
"Nothing. There's some drama up front, so I went for a walk."
The butler nodded and gestured toward the path. "I'll have someone escort you back to the courtyard you share with Mr. Croix."
"Don't bother," Raelynn said coldly.
She had no choice but to turn around and walk away.
Escaping the suffocating grip of the Croix family was never going to be easy.
Perhaps it was the sheer exhaustion of the day's disastrous events, but Raelynn felt a deep sense of irritation. The Croix family wouldn't have a peaceful night either. They had finally given Seraphina an inch of respect, only for her to ruin it entirely.
Raelynn didn't return to the dining room.
The estate was going to be in an uproar tonight.
She had no desire to be part of the spectacle.
Without a word to Sebastian, she quietly drove away.
Whether Seraphina stayed the night, or if she spent it in the courtyard with Sebastian, Raelynn didn't care. She was far more interested in the details of the fatal medical error.
Gracefield Private Hospital was known for its ruthless management and deep pockets.
It was shocking that the incident hadn't exploded into a public scandal yet. Everything seemed terrifyingly calm.
The next day.
Raelynn arrived at NexusMind Technologies and bumped straight into Preston Moreno. He grabbed her arm and pulled her into his office. "Seraphina's project just blew up. Did you—"
But this time.
Even his background couldn't bury the scandal.
"Since they couldn't cover it up, they had to pin the blame somewhere. Naturally, it fell on Seraphina's surgical robot. Now she's the one taking the fall."
Raelynn understood perfectly.
The machine itself might not have been fundamentally flawed, but the surgeon had the ultimate shield.
Even if Seraphina was innocent, she had no way out.
"She really messed with the wrong people this time," Raelynn said, her brow furrowing. "If she can't resolve this, her project will bankrupt her. No one in the industry will touch her tech, and her resume will forever be stained with a patient's death. Her future is basically over."
This was infinitely worse than the patent theft scandal.
At that moment.
A thought struck Raelynn.
Hadn't Leo Flynn invested heavily in her project?
