Raelynn stood frozen in place, forced to watch the consultant enthusiastically package the rings Seraphina had just praised.
A cynical, humorless smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth.
When a man was truly in love, he would buy out the entire store without a second thought. He'd buy a pair for every day of the week if she asked.
But she had absolutely zero interest in standing around watching her ex-husband cheerfully finance his new lover's vanity.
Without uttering a single word to Sebastian, she simply turned her back on him and walked straight toward Cordelia.
"Cordelia, I don't really have any specific requests," Raelynn said, gesturing vaguely at the racks of delicate silk and lace.
Cordelia cast a covert, assessing glance at Sebastian, who hadn't even bothered to turn around. She didn't pry or show even a hint of misplaced curiosity. Instead, she pointed decisively. "Then you should try this off-the-shoulder gown. You have stunning curves and a gorgeous neckline. It'll look absolutely perfect on you."
Raelynn had genuinely lost all interest in playing dress-up.
But if she turned around and bolted out the door right now, it would look like she was running away, giving them exactly what they wanted.
Since she was already here, she might as well play her part. She nodded firmly. "Alright. I'll trust your taste."
What did it matter anyway? She and Sebastian were worse than strangers now. Neither of them had the right to interfere in the other's personal business. If she wanted to try on wedding dresses right in front of him, and he chose to ignore her existence, that was actually the best possible outcome. They could at least maintain a shred of dignity.
Raelynn let her defenses drop entirely.
Once inside the spacious fitting room, she ran her fingertips over the exquisite layers of tulle.
No woman could look at a beautiful wedding dress and feel absolutely nothing. It was just a painful reminder of how rushed and pathetic her marriage to Sebastian had been. Looking back, she realized how horribly she had shortchanged herself.
When she slipped the dress on, she realized she couldn't quite reach the hidden zipper in the back.
She cracked the door open and called out softly, hoping a consultant was nearby.
Perhaps the fitting rooms were simply too close together.
The moment her voice faded, Seraphina's sugary, deliberate call echoed from just down the hall. "Sebastian, can you come in here and help me for a second?"
Raelynn scoffed quietly.
It was painfully obvious and incredibly deliberate.
Whether Seraphina was calling for Sebastian or just performing for Raelynn's benefit, she truly couldn't care less.
Just then...
The door to her fitting room clicked open.
Assuming it was the consultant, Raelynn didn't bother turning around. "Thank you, I just need a little help with—"
