Sebastian skipped the small talk. He walked over, sat down, and looked down as he began unfastening his emerald cufflinks. "Grandma knows I'm here. I'm staying to avoid her checking up on me."
Seeing his cufflinks instantly reminded Raelynn of the emerald bracelet Seraphina had specifically bought to match them.
She quickly looked away, the reality of his words finally sinking in. "So you want me to be your alibi? A shield for you and Seraphina?"
He was worried his grandmother would go after Seraphina.
So he was reluctantly slumming it in his own wife's room to protect his mistress?
Sebastian looked up calmly.
Seemingly completely ignoring Raelynn's biting sarcasm.
He pulled an exquisite, carved wooden jewelry box from his pocket.
"This is for the inconvenience. You come out ahead."
Raelynn's eyes locked onto the box.
She recognized it instantly.
It was the flawless Imperial Topaz Locket—the one Sebastian had just blown a hundred million on to steal out from under her for Seraphina.
And now he was just casually handing it over, using it as a bribe so she would cover for them and keep Seraphina out of the crosshairs.
She knew, of course.
Matilda Croix was not a gentle woman.
She had weathered decades of vicious family politics to maintain her iron grip as the matriarch.
If she wanted to destroy Seraphina, she had a hundred ways to do it.
Seraphina wouldn't stand a chance.
Sebastian wanted to keep his grandmother completely in the dark about Seraphina being at the resort. He needed to feed the main estate a false narrative: that he was spending the night in Raelynn's bed.
Leaving Seraphina perfectly safe and hidden.
"Got it. Hush money," Raelynn said, her voice eerily calm.
"She never touched it. You don't need to feel disgusted by it," Sebastian replied, ignoring her comment completely as his long fingers tapped the top of the box.
Raelynn was surprised he had read her mind so accurately.
And that he had the nerve to say it out loud.
But honestly, she was fine with it.
It was a pretty good deal, actually.
With their divorce basically written in stone, there was no point in wasting any emotional energy on him.
