Hearing the cold detachment in Raelynn's voice was like watching someone rip their own heart out.
It was the terrifying numbness that only came after endless cycles of abuse.
Chloe honestly felt that hiding a preschool-aged daughter from Sebastian was exactly what that bastard deserved! It was karma!
Knowing everything Raelynn had suffered, Chloe immediately cheered her on. "Men are like used tissues—completely worthless and utterly disgusting! A dog always returns to its vomit. Trash belongs in the dumpster!"
After hanging up, Raelynn didn't stop moving. She continued packing her personal items.
Seven years as a high-society wife, and everything she owned fit into exactly two suitcases.
She looked down at the diamond ring on her ring finger.
She rubbed it gently. Even though she had worn it so long it felt like a part of her, right now, it felt like a blade slicing into her skin.
Taking a deep breath, she pulled it off without an ounce of hesitation and dropped it straight into the folder with the divorce agreement.
Waiting until the dead of night, she loaded her suitcases into her car.
It was far too late to drive out.
She went back inside and slept in her clothes.
The next morning.
Raelynn was jolted awake by the sounds of heavy lifting and moving downstairs.
She had barely managed three hours of sleep, and the noise felt like a drill grinding into her skull.
Fighting through the exhaustion, she washed up and deliberately placed the divorce folder right in the center of her now-empty vanity.
Making sure that the second Sebastian walked in, he would see the surprise he had been waiting for.
Then, she headed downstairs.
Chloe had already found her a new apartment last night.
