pack around here. These weren’t local wolves.
That alone put me on guard.
We hadn’t gone far before the car veered off the main road and rolled to a stop in the middle of nowh Several SUVs were already parked ahead, engines running, like they’d been waiting for us.
The driver stepped out, opened my door, and pointed at me with his claw. “Out. Now.”
I stepped down and took a quick look around. Seven, maybe eight of them. All built like fighters, all carrying that same sharp, blood–heavy scent. Lyra picked it up instantly.
These were professionals.
Two of them moved in the second my feet hit the ground, grabbing my arms and yanking them behind my back. The restraints went on tight, and tape sealed my mouth before I could say a word.
I struggled just enough to make it believable, then let them take control.
I needed information more than I needed a quick win.
“Don’t bother fighting,” the driver said, his tone edged with mockery as he watched me. “You don’t even have a wolf. You’re not getting away from us.”
I glared at him, forcing anger into my expression while keeping my movements weak.
At first, I’d thought this might be the Soren family trying to drag me back, maybe force me to fix their problems, but the moment the scent hit full force, cold and lethal, I realized how wrong I’d been.
This wasn’t family.
These were hired killers.
Lyra tensed inside me, her energy tightening in a way that didn’t happen often. Whoever these men worked for, they weren’t ordinary.
They shoved me into the back of an SUV, wedging me between two of them. Their claws stayed close to my throat the entire time, a silent warning.
The convoy split up not long after, each vehicle peeling off in different directions, clearly meant to throw off anyone trying to follow.

Inside, the air was damp and stale, the kind of place that hadn’t seen

They forced me into a corner and tied my arms to a wooden support beam.
I lifted my head and took in the room.
A few men in black stood around, but one of them stood
He didn’t move. He didn’t need to.
The scent coming off him hit like a wall, thick with blood and violence.
Lyra reacted immediately, her energy sharpening.
This one was dangerous.
Miss Soren,” he said, his voice low and rough, carrying a trace of amusement that didn’t soften anything about him, “welcome to hell.”
The tape was ripped off my mouth in one quick motion, the sting sharp enough to make me flinch.
I let my voice shake when I spoke. “Who are you? What do you want from me?”
He smiled, slow and cruel. “Easy. Our client made it very clear. We’re supposed to take good care of you.
I let fear show, letting my breathing turn uneven while I bought time.
He tilted his head slightly, his claws extending as he looked at me like I was already dead. “Got anything you want to say before we start?”
