Lyra spotted him before I did. Victor. The same guy who’d been harassing me not long ago.

“Victor?” Desmond’s voice cut through the air, tight with irritation. “How the hell did he get in here?” He moved in front of me almost instinctively, his wolf-gold eyes flashing a warning.

But Victor just sidestepped him smoothly, ignoring the sharp look Kade shot his way. He stopped right in front of me and gave a practiced, shallow bow. “Ms. Soren. Would you grant me the honor of this dance?”

The room went dead silent.

Somewhere in the crowd, a whisper drifted-low enough that only my sharper hearing caught it. “Victor’s family have been in business with the Hudsons for generations. You think they’re trying to seal an alliance through marriage now?”

“Hard to tell…”

Victor leaned in slightly, pulling my attention back. I took half a step backward, but before I could even form a reply, Kade stepped between us, his voice cold and flat.

“Sorry. She’s dancing the next one with me.”

Victor’s eyebrow lifted, dismissive. “And you are? Switching partners at a ball isn’t exactly against the rules.” He looked past Kade, smiling at me. “Well, beautiful? I’m waiting.”

That was when Desmond snarled.

It was a low, predatory sound, all teeth and warning. In one stride, he closed the distance, grabbing Victor by the back of his tailored collar. “You wanna dance? Fine. I’ll dance with you. All. Night. Long.”

Before Victor could even process it, Desmond spun him straight into the center of the dance floor.

One arm clamped around Victor’s waist, the other seizing his hand in a vice-like grip- Desmond dragged him into what could only be called a forced tango.

“What the hell are you doing?!” Victor sputtered, struggling, but Desmond dipped him so deep his back nearly cracked.

“You said you wanted to dance.” Desmond’s grin was all sharp, white teeth. “I’m just making sure you get the full Hudson party experience.”

Somehow, the music had switched to a fiery, dramatic tango. Desmond whipped Victor across the floor like a ragdoll. Those expensive custom leather shoes got stomped beyond recognition. His perfectly styled blond hair turned into something a bird would be proud to call home.

“Let me go, you lunatic!” Victor finally snapped.

“This? This is nothing.” With a sharp, practiced throw, Desmond sent him spinning out before yanking him back hard. “At a Hudson party, we don’t stop until everyone’s thoroughly… entertained.”

The guests were staring, some with jaws slack. A few younger society girls who knew Desmond were already collapsing against their friends, laughing helplessly. “Oh my god, he hasn’t changed at all!”

I was leaning into Kade, laughing so hard my sides ached. “He’s completely ruthless.”

And I loved every second of it.

Kade’s arm tightened around my waist, his eyes warm and amused. “Looks like I don’t have to lift a finger. Your cousin seems happy to scare off any potential rivals for me.”

That just made me laugh harder.

On the dance floor, Victor was panting, sweat beading on his forehead, his once-crisp suit now wrinkled like yesterday’s laundry.

Finally, Desmond finished with a sharp, closing flourish-and Victor stumbled, dropping to one knee on the polished wood, dazed and disheveled.

Ever the host, Desmond walked over, pulled him up with exaggerated politeness, and slung an

stamina. arm around his shoulders like they were old buddies. “Man, you gotta work on your Keep this up, even a low-ranked Omega could run circles around you.”

The room erupted into laughter.

Victor was trapped-too proud to shove Desmond off, too connected to the family to make a real scene. His face flushed a deep, frustrated red.

I was about to enjoy the show a little longer, but in the next breath, Kade was guiding me through the crowd and out onto the wide, empty terrace.
