After his visit to the stables, Dave went straight back to his hotel. He was only in Cabinda for about a month, just long enough to get a feel for the local market.
Helena reached out to him and set up a meeting in the hotel restaurant.
Dave didn’t hesitate to accept. When he saw Theresia again, the appreciation in his eyes was obvious.
“Teresa, you’re hurt. I should’ve been the one visiting you at the hospital.”
Theresia’s eyes lit up at his words, a sign that Dave truly respected her.
She smiled, warm and strong at the same time. “Dave, just having you agree to meet me is already an honor.”
“You’re too polite, Teresa. So, how much are you hoping to borrow?”
Theresia didn’t beat around the bush. She handed over her neatly prepared file. “Dave, I need three hundred million.”
Dave took her paperwork seriously this time. He read every page, taking his time, and only looked up after at least ten minutes, genuinely stunned.
“So you’re that Teresa. My wife is a huge fan of your paintings. If she were here, she’d be over the moon to meet you.”
Theresia had included all her assets, both local and overseas, plus her value as a well-known artist. According to JPMorgan’s standards, she’d probably be approved for about two hundred fifty million.
“If I ever get to meet your wife, I think we’d really hit it off,” Theresia said with a humble smile.
Then Dave asked, “Teresa, the man who saved you today—is he your boyfriend? You have good taste.”
Theresia paused, her fork in midair, and a faint blush colored her cheeks. “No, he’s not my boyfriend. We’re just friends, really.”
Dave chuckled. “I don’t think I’m wrong. He definitely likes you. Maybe next time we see each other, he’ll be your boyfriend.”
…
When dinner ended, Dave walked them out.
Before they parted, he said, “Teresa, we’re friends now, but the bank still has its rules. If your documents don’t meet our requirements, I can’t make any exceptions. I hope you understand.”
