Theresia’s dark eyes showed not even a flicker of fear. She was steady, completely unruffled, like everything was happening exactly the way she wanted.
No, it wasn’t just an act. This really was her plan, every step of it.
Suddenly it all made sense to Jared. He finally understood why she hadn’t left with Helena, and why she’d let go of him so suddenly.
“You set me up, Theresia,” he growled, glaring at her, jaw clenched.
What did you expect? Did you really think I’d just let you walk all over me?
One of the officers gave the order. “Take him away.”
The room, which had been full of chaos just moments ago, turned cold and silent.
Theresia fixed her hair and straightened her dress, her voice trembling as she told the officers what had happened, her eyes red with unshed tears.
A female officer took careful notes, then gently reassured her. “Teresa, we might need you to help us again later. We’ll call if anything comes up.”
Theresia wiped at her eyes, her voice barely steady. “Thank you. If you hadn’t gotten here when you did, I don’t even want to think about what could’ve happened…”
She choked up, looking like she might fall apart all over again.
The female officer, feeling for her in that moment, offered a soft smile. “It’s over now, Teresa. Don’t worry. The law will make sure you get justice.”
They parted ways. The officer hurried back to the station to file her report.
As soon as she was gone, Theresia’s calm returned in full. She stood up, composed and collected. Then her phone rang.
He let out a heavy sigh. “You’re going to be the end of me. Just promise me you’ll call if anything ever happens.”
Theresia laughed a little. “Don’t worry. If I need help, you won’t be able to run away even if you want to.”
After a few more words, she hung up and finally stepped out of the private room.
Sure, she’d played her part, but Jared had really tried to hurt her. He’d been caught red-handed, with no excuses left. As for threatening him with the bottle, she admitted it, but made it clear that someone like her would never stand a chance against him.
She was still in her evening dress from the charity auction, the collar ripped open by Jared in the scuffle. She had to hold it closed with her hand, or else risk showing more than she wanted.
Downstairs, the club was alive with strangers, all lost in their own midnight escapades. Theresia just felt tired. She picked up her pace, desperate to get home and finally let her guard down.
