“She begs for a living?” Theresia raised an eyebrow.
Warren opened the lunch containers with practiced care, one after another. “Yeah. She’s got no family, and her legs are disabled. Honestly, she’s had a rough life. Oh, by the way, Garry said if you need anything else, just ask. He’s happy to help.”
Theresia felt a twinge of guilt. Garry had already done so much for her, she couldn’t keep asking for favors.
“That’s okay. I can take care of the rest myself. But thank Garry for me, will you?”
Warren grinned. “Don’t mention it. He actually likes helping out.”
Theresia just sighed and let it go.
Once he’d finished his errand, Warren headed out, saying he’d come by later to pick up the containers. Theresia sat down and ate the lunch he’d brought. It was really good, even though it didn’t taste quite like the meal she’d tried at Kaston’s. She didn’t think too hard about it—before she knew it, she’d polished off every bite. Afterward, she washed the containers and dried them until they were spotless.
Later that afternoon, she had work to do. She went to meet someone she trusted, since she really couldn’t approach that woman herself.
A day passed, and Theresia finally got the result she’d been hoping for. With Carl keeping an eye on things at the nursing home, all she needed was the right moment to make the switch. She hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly, but she wasn’t complaining.
Now she had Webb and the nurse as witnesses. If she could just get proof that Lawrence was involved in illegal business, he’d never set foot outside prison again. And Patti—well, with any luck, they’d finally get what they deserved, stuck together through thick and thin.
Aaron gave it to him straight. “No. And rumor is, Colin from NextGen Technologies has been hanging out with Garry a lot lately.”
Lawrence stubbed out his cigarette, his eyes dark with frustration. “That old man always loves making things difficult for me. Aaron, set up another meeting with Garry.”
“Will do. But there’s something else—we’ve been sitting on that shipment way too long…”
Lawrence’s brow tightened. He sat in silence for a while, then finally said, “I’ll figure something out.”
