He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 20

Hanson rested his hand on the steering wheel, lost in thought.

After a few moments, he finally spoke. “Alright, whatever you say. I’ve found you a new place. You shouldn’t go back to that house.”

Theresia shook her head. “Take me back to Verdant Heights. Before I leave, I don’t want Lawrence to notice anything strange. It’s always calm before the storm, right?”

She was determined to disappear from Lawrence’s life quietly, without leaving a trace.

She glanced at the time. Almost there.

...

Patti ended up in the hospital again, but this time, luck wasn’t on her side. She had more than a dozen stitches in her scalp and a concussion. The doctor said she had to stay for treatment.

Lawrence had stayed by her side the whole night, not sleeping for a second. After two days with no real rest, he was running on empty.

He pressed his fingers to the bridge of his nose, looking completely worn out.

Patti, trying to sound caring, scooted over and patted the bed. “Lawrence, lie down and get some sleep. You look exhausted. It hurts to see you like this.”

He glanced at her. Her sweet, delicate face was as familiar as ever, the face he once loved.

So why did Theresia’s pale, haunted expression keep popping into his mind whenever he looked at Patti?

Suddenly, Lawrence got up, making Patti jump.

“Lawrence, are you leaving?”

She wasn’t fully recovered. He really shouldn’t be leaving her right now, not when she was still feeling so bad.

But Lawrence couldn’t shake the restless feeling in his chest.

He kept thinking about Theresia’s calm, empty look from yesterday. It made him uneasy.

“You’re right. I was asking too much. Go home, Lawrence.”

Hearing the disappointment in her voice, guilt twisted in Lawrence’s chest. He hesitated, then said, “I’ll come see you tomorrow.”

Patti smiled. “Okay.”

Lawrence left the room without looking back.

As soon as he was gone, Patti’s face twisted with fury. She trashed the room, smashing everything she could reach, screaming, “You blind witch! Lawrence is mine. Only mine. Just you wait!”

Lawrence walked out of the hospital and climbed into the car, his brow still furrowed.

Aaron glanced at him in the rearview mirror. “Back to Verdant Heights?”

Lawrence pressed his fingers to his temples. “No. Take me to the police station.”
