He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 21

Aaron blinked, caught off guard that Lawrence would even bring up Theresia right now. That was unexpected.

The drive from the hospital to the police station was quick, just twenty minutes.

Lawrence stepped out, his long legs covering ground easily. He straightened his sleeves and jacket, then strode into the station like he owned the place.

He had that kind of presence. The moment he walked in, everyone noticed him. Someone stepped up. “Sir, are you here to file a report or do you need assistance?”

Lawrence stood right in the middle of the lobby. “I’m here to bail out Theresia.”

He had been the one who told the housekeeper to call the police yesterday. Theresia’s wild, out-of-control behavior needed consequences. He owed Patti some justice too, and calling the cops had seemed like the right call.

He thought that making Theresia spend a night in a cell would teach her something. She needed to learn there were limits, things she could and couldn’t do. He could spoil her, sure, but there were boundaries she wasn’t allowed to cross. He needed to make that clear before she got too comfortable thinking her pregnancy meant she could do whatever she wanted.

The officer looked confused. “Theresia was bailed out yesterday by Hanson. She’s not here anymore.”

Lawrence’s voice turned cold. “What? She’s already been released?”

“That’s right,” the officer replied. “Hanson came in himself to bail her out.”

So Theresia had called Hanson for backup. No wonder she’d been so bold with Patti—she must have had this planned all along. With Hanson’s influence, it would’ve been easy to get her out. Theresia had set everything up in advance.

Lawrence’s brows knit together, and for a long moment he just stood there, taking it in.

For a second, Lawrence remembered a phrase he’d once read: peace in the quiet moments. He didn’t love her, but he also didn’t want to ruin the calm they’d finally found. This sense of stability, it was enough.

Theresia heard him come in but didn’t turn around. She wasn’t the girl who used to light up at his smile, who wanted nothing more than to spend every day with him. That kind of love was gone, replaced by something colder.

Lawrence sat down next to her on the wicker chair. “I really underestimated you.”

Theresia sat in the sunlight, her voice flat and calm. “Lawrence, shouldn’t you be at the hospital with Patti? Did you come all the way back just to scold me? What, are you planning to drag me back there to apologize? Aren’t you worried I might accidentally go too far next time?”

Lawrence’s eyes narrowed, his anger rising. “Theresia, do you really think I won’t do anything? You think just because you’re pregnant, you can act however you want?”
