Garry had found her earring?
Teresa honestly never thought she’d see it again.
She spoke quietly into her phone, “Thanks for going out of your way, Warren. I’m actually at the hospital right now.”
Warren glanced at Garry as soon as he heard that. He ended the call in a hurry. “No trouble at all. I’ll bring it over right away.”
Once the call ended, Warren walked right over to Garry, who was sitting upright and tense.
Garry held out his hand. Resting in his palm was a diamond earring shaped like a six-pointed star.
He’d found it earlier, just lying on the pillow in the bedroom. The little gem caught the sunlight, scattering rainbows everywhere.
Just seeing it made Garry flash back to last night. They’d come so close to crossing the line in that bed. The earring must have slipped off then.
He felt the tips of his ears go hot. He hesitated a second, then handed the earring to Warren.
Warren took it, but then paused. “Garry, I just talked to Teresa. Sounds like she’s sick. She’s at the hospital.”
Garry’s head snapped up. “Hospital?”
Warren nodded. “That’s what she said. Garry, do you want to…”
Before Warren could finish, Garry grabbed the earring right back and walked out without another word.
Warren just stood there, stunned for a moment, trying to process what had happened.
Garry hurried out to his car, his face dark and his eyebrows drawn tight. He’d made her take a cold shower last night. She was always so fragile. Of course she got sick. He blamed himself, regret twisting in his gut.
He drove to the hospital as fast as he could.
He kept the earring clenched in his fist the whole way, taking the stairs two at a time when he got there. But as soon as he stepped into the main lobby, he stopped.
The hall was mostly empty, just a few people around. Garry spotted Teresa right away.
What he didn’t expect was Parrish sitting beside her.
The six-pointed star earring sat in his palm, and you could still see the marks it had left on his skin.
Teresa reached out and took it. Before she could say anything, Parrish jumped in. “Teresa, that matches the one you’re wearing. But how did this gentleman end up with your earring?”
It sounded casual, but there was an edge to it. Parrish was fishing for answers.
There was no way he wasn’t thinking something.
Parrish looked over at Garry, his eyes widening as he realized. “Wait, I remember now. We met last night, didn’t we? You’re one of Penn’s guests?”
Garry didn’t bother with small talk. He just gave a short “Yeah,” then turned to Teresa. “Is it serious?”
He only had eyes for her. It was like nobody else in the room even existed.
Teresa shook her head. “It’s not serious. I should be able to go home soon.”
Garry didn’t look convinced. He found a seat across from her and sat down, his presence filling the space around them. “When you’re done here, I’m taking you to Serenity Hills Hospital for a full check-up.”
