Janetta arrived right on time.
She was third in line.
Helena watched expressionlessly, with Charlotte Morgan standing by her side.
They observed Janetta's performance on the monitor.
The actors auditioning for Destiny's Choice were only given isolated scenes, not the full script.
The storyline was strictly confidential.
None of them knew the actual plot.
They had to guess the context from the dialogue they received.
Of course, basic details like the lead character's name were public knowledge.
"Ms. Wallace, this role was perfectly tailored for her. She's essentially playing herself," Charlotte noted dryly.
Helena remained silent, her gaze fixed on the screen.
"What if she turns it down?" Charlotte asked.
"She won't. She needs the money," Helena replied with absolute certainty.
Charlotte paused, but wisely refrained from asking further questions.
When Helena had first told her to write this specific character arc, Charlotte had a pretty good idea of what was going on.
She wasn't going to question her boss's motives.
They murmured a few more words to each other.
Outside, the auditions concluded.
Since Destiny's Choice was a massive blockbuster production, even the A-list stars lingered, hoping for immediate feedback.
On the monitor, Helena saw the director walk out to announce the casting decisions.
After a moment of silence, she stepped out gracefully, leaving Charlotte behind in the control room.
Janetta would recognize Charlotte.
A snake like Janetta, who had ruined countless lives, was constantly on high alert.
Seeing Charlotte would immediately tip her off.
Helena wasn't going to let her prey slip away.
When she walked out, Janetta was furiously arguing with the director.
Epoch Pictures and Orion Entertainment were rivals, but they also collaborated on occasion.
In the current industry climate, mutual cooperation was often the best strategy.
But wasn't Helena from IGM? What did a tech company have to do with Epoch Pictures?
Especially with the way Helena was looking at her, a faint, mocking smile playing on her lips.
It made Janetta's skin crawl.
It was as if she was being dissected.
Every instinct screamed at her to flee.
But she couldn't.
First, the paycheck for Destiny's Choice was incredibly lucrative. Second, she was desperate for cash. Third, she desperately needed a blockbuster to revive her career.
"Ms. Wallace, what are you doing here?" she forced herself to ask calmly.
"I'm the largest investor in Epoch," Helena replied with a breezy smile. "Though I don't interfere with the director's decisions. The final cast list has to be approved by the executives."
Her tone was light, applying no obvious pressure.
Even so, a cold sweat broke out on Janetta's back.
