Hide and Seek: The Mad Girl Sees All novel Chapter 151

Chapter 151

“Yeah.” Lyra nodded. “Out of the five of us, four have already become Hunters. Lil Lily’s the only one who might still be normal.”

Lyra suddenly wondered aloud, “What if, in the end, this game leaves only Hunters alive?”

Sergei tugged the corner of his mouth into a smile. “Ha… ow!” The laugh died before it could start, the movement pulling at the cut on his face.

Lyra looked him over curiously. “Why are you so banged up? Wasn’t Sunhwa supposed to have your back?

Sergei gave a wry smile. “The Hunter chasing me used some weird item, whatever it was, it locked Sunhwa down for five minutes.”

“Seriously? There’s actually an item that targets souls?” Lyra blurted out, her voice rising in disbelief.

“Is this damn game targeting me a little too hard?” Lyra snapped, anger flaring. Besides her, who else here even had soul companions?

Sergei listened, feeling like a total newbie. He’d noticed it too, the game kept changing the rules every round, making last round’s items pretty much useless.

“Oh, right! Lyra, check out this item,” Sergei said, pulling something out of his pocket.

“What is it?” Lyra asked, leaning in.

“A copper bell, Sergei replied, wiping his face with his sleeve. “The Hunter threw it at me. When it rang, Sunhwa’s whole soul got trapped in a golden glow, she couldn’t move at all.”

“Five minutes?” Lyra asked.

“Five minutes,” Sergei replied, sounding pretty annoyed. “Those five minutes were pure life-or-death, I even ended up using my precious booze as a weapon and chucking it at them!”

Just thinking about the booze made Sergei wince. He made a mental note that next time he stumbled across a wine cellar, he was definitely stocking up.

Lyra held out her hand. “So, where’s the bell?”

Sergei dug a copper bell out of his pocket and passed it over. It felt super light, and there were tiny runes carved all around it. The little piece inside was black.

“The Hunter already used it once, not sure if it’ll work again though,” Sergei said.

Lyra gave it a shake, but it didn’t make a sound. “Maybe it can only be used once per round, or maybe it just has a long

cooldown.”

She handed the bell back to Sergei. “Hang onto it and see if it works later. If not, give it another shot next round.”

Sergei stuffed it back into his pocket. “The bell’s not a weapon, it’s probably a treasure chest item the Hunter picked up. This iron pipe is the weapon I got this round.”

“Yeah, the game gives each Hunter a different weapon. Some even get sneaky stuff like hidden weapons,” Lyra said.

Lyra rubbed her Hidden Edge Ring. “So, you’d better stay alert around everyone, those hidden weapons are a real pain to defend against.”

“Got it, Sergei replied.

“Sunhwa, how are you holding up?” Lyra asked, turning to Sunhwa after finishing with Sergei.

I’m fine. That item only trapped me, it didn’t do any real damage,” Sunhwa replied.

“Alright then. Lyra said, stepping forward. “Let’s get moving, stick with me.”

“Where are we going?” Sunhwa asked.

To find Lil Lily. She’s the only one I haven’t run into yet.” Lyra replied.

Sergei followed Lyra, and the two of them moved through three rooms one after another. As they pushed open the door to the fourth room, the door to the north opened right then.

Lil Lily peeked out, and her face instantly brightened at the sight of Lyra.

“Hey, Goddess Lyra! I got you a gift!” Lil Lily called out.

Lil Lily dashed over, Jane right on her heels. Trailing behind was a guy, hoisted up in midair by soul power, his mouth gagged with cloth, legs hanging limp, and his eyes rolling around like crazy.

Sergei eyed the guy, all trussed up and dangling. “Who’s this?”

“Blake,” Lil Lily announced, hands on her hips as she stopped in front of Lyra. “Hunter from Marsupia, came at me with a crossbow and a Locator Card!”

Lyra looked up at Blake.

Blake’s eyes darted over Lyra’s face, and he shrank back, mumbling a muffled whimper through the gag.

Lil Lily crouched down next to Lyra and whispered, “Goddess Lyra, he’s got some kind of paper on him.”

Jane drifted over and handed Lyra the folded paper.

Lyra took it, unfolded it, and read the writing twice. Her finger lingered on the phrase “designated target.”

“Wait, the game actually singled out Lil Lily to die?” Lyra said, her mind spinning. Was the game really this petty? It had already thrown soul-targeting items at her, so maybe this was possible. Had she misjudged Alex, or had he made this note?

Jane nodded.

Lil Lily pouted. “I didn’t even do anything to deserve this!”

Lyra folded the paper and slipped it into her pocket, then walked up to Blake. He was hanging in midair, so their eyes met at the same level.

Lyra yanked the cloth out of his mouth.

Blake coughed hard, gasping for air. “I can tell you everything! Everything!”

Lyra tilted her head, listening to Blake mumble some gibberish she couldn’t understand. “Where’s your Locator Card?”

Blake paused, looking confused, and turned to Jane for help.

Jane had the odd feeling that she was doing someone else’s job.

Jane turned to translate.

Wed,

Chapter 151

…Right pocket, Blake said.

“Right pocket,” Jane translated.

Lyra fished a card out of his right pocket and flipped it over. The back had instructions written on it.

[Hunter Locator Card: After locking onto a designated target, a guiding line shows up in the user’s field of vision, pointing straight to where the target is. Lasts until the target is dead or the round ends. Can be used 3 times.]

“It’s locked onto Lil Lily right now, so it’s pretty much useless for now, but I can still use it in the next round Lyra said.

Lil Lily peeked over, her lips curling into a pout.

Lyra slipped the Locator Card into her pocket and looked at Lil Lily. “Got your gift.”

Lil Lily nodded, pointing at Blake. “Goddess Lyra, he’s all yours now.”

Lyra let out a laugh and walked up to Blake. His eyes went wide with fear.

Blake choked out, “Wait…”

“Lil Lily, look away.” Lyra said.

“Goddess Lyra, I’m not scared.” Lil Lily said, thumping her chest, her eyes shining with courage. A real warrior faced this brutal game head-on and didn’t flinch when bad guys dropped dead right in front of her. That was her motto now.

Lyra didn’t push it. She just clenched her fist.

Click.

The tip of the Hidden Edge Ring snapped out, and Lyra punched Blake hard in the side of his neck.

“Ah!” Blake screamed.

Blake’s body convulsed twice, his head lolled limply, and as Jane released her soul power, he crashed to the floor with a heavy thud.
