Chapter 185
Just a wall of mist away, Snow held her breath.

She watched the two massive Wraiths leave, and only when their footsteps faded completely did she slowly straighten up. Her translucent fingers brushed her chest, empty, hollow, with no sensation at all.
Snow wondered, ‘Was that what had been roaring during the day? Were they trying to get out?”
She floated upward, her eyes landing on the spot where the two Wraiths had stood. The ground was scarred with claw marks and pits hammered out by their bone spurs.
Snow didn’t dare get any closer. She turned and drifted back to her usual spot. The scene kept replaying in her mind. She couldn’t understand their language, but she could sense that one of them was especially restless, constantly trying to break
free.
She wondered, ‘Does this count as new information?’
Time ticked by, and the distant rumble of an engine echoed through the air.
Snow looked up and thought, They must be here, right? They seem a bit later than usual today.
Soon, she heard Lyra’s familiar voice calling out, “Snow! We’re here!”
Once everyone gathered around her, Snow didn’t even wait for them to send over their soul power. She jumped right in, “Last night, two things showed up.”
Jane drifted closer to Snow. “Go ahead, take your time.”
Snow pointed toward the depths of the Wraith mist. “It was the same kind that was roaring yesterday morning, with that really deep voice.”
Lyra’s smile faded. Three eyes, a tail, a hard shell, and bone spurs on their arms?”
Snow nodded. “Yeah.”
Lyra and Jane exchanged a glance, and Jane pressed, “Are they still around?”
Snow shook her head. “No.”
She paused, recalling the scene. “They tried to break out, but got blocked. Then they shoved those black tentacles from their mouths down into the ground. Not sure what they were up to, but after a bit, they yanked them back out.”
Lyra’s brow twitched. “Underground? Maybe they were absorbing the earth’s vital energy.”
Snow piped up, “There’s something else.”
Jane asked, “What is it?”
Snow looked at them. “Looks like they can talk to each other.”
Lyra blinked. “Talk to each other?”
Snow nodded. “Yeah, there were two Wraiths. One was super agitated, kept trying to get out, and the other one was calmer. They made some noises, like they were actually having a conversation.”
She paused. “I couldn’t understand what they were saying.”

11:35 Wed,
Chapter 185
Jane glanced toward the Invasion Zone. “If they can talk to each other, make decisions, and even hold their buddies back, that’s not just animal instinct anymore.”
Lyra-clicked her tongue. “This just got even trickier.
“What are you thinking?” Jane asked.
Lyra started counting off on her fingers. “Level 1 Wraiths? At best, they’ll call for backup or run away. They don’t work together in a fight.”
“But if Level 2 Wraiths can actually talk, that means they might split up, set traps, and even follow orders,” she added.
She looked up. “Snow, this info is huge.”
Snow said softly, “I’m not much help otherwise.”
Lyra shook her head right away. “Who says that? You’ve already helped us a ton!”
“We’re changing the plan today,” Lyra said, glancing at the Card Souls. “No soul power transfer for now.”
Clara looked at her. “No transfer?”
Lyra nodded. “Keep your soul power at full. Level 2 Wraiths can talk now, so they might be setting up an ambush.”
She turned to Snow. “Snow, we’ll send you soul power when we get back. For now, we’re just going in to scout things out.”
Snow nodded. “Okay, be careful.”
Lyra patted the new gun at her waist. “Relax, Engineer Clark and the crew just brought over their latest toys. Let’s see if these Level 2 Wraiths can take a blast.”
Zoe chimed in, “Just testing, no lingering in battle. If we run into more than planned, we bail right away.”
Lyra raised her hand. “Got it.”
The group stepped through the Ghost Wall and entered the Invasion Zone.
Not far in, Zoe crouched down. There were claw marks on the ground, four deep grooves stretching from the edge of the Wraith mist all the way to the ruins, with long drag marks from a tail nearby.
Lyra moved in to check it out. “Guess they really did show up.”
Zoe looked up, following the footprints into the mist. “Looks like they went that way.”
Jane spread her soul power forward. “The tracks are pretty clear.”
Zoe pointed to the left. “If we follow these footprints, maybe we’ll find where the Level 2 Wraiths like to hang out.”
She gestured the other way. “Or, if we avoid them, we might stay out of their turf.”
Lyra rubbed her chin. “So, what’s our move today?”
Zoe looked at her. “Your call.”
Lyra grinned. “Let’s head where we fought yesterday. Zoe, didn’t you lose a recording device there? We need to get it back.”
Zoe nodded. “Alright.”
Lyra looked at the five newbies. “Same drill as always. After each of you takes down one Wraith, you head back.”

Chapter 185
“Yes!” they replied in unison.
55 vourys
The group kept moving forward. There were way fewer Level 1 Wraiths than usual. After walking several hundred yards, the five newbies finally got their kills and wrapped up their task. This time, Lyra had Amon escort them back.
After absorbing the energy from another Wraith, Sunhwa looked puzzled. “There are barely any Wraiths today. Did the Level 2 Wraiths pull the Level 1 Wraiths back or something?”
Jane glanced around. “Or maybe they just haven’t managed to restock the edges with more Level 1 Wraiths yet.”
Zoe raised her hand. “We’re here.”
Lyra looked up, recognizing the clearing where they’d fought yesterday. She glanced around. “Is this the place?”
Jane nodded. “Yeah.”
Lyra pointed at the ground. “Where’s the body?”
Yesterday, that Level 2 Wraith was sprawled out right here, its chest ripped open, head smashed to bits. Now, all that’s left are some shattered rocks and blackened stains on the ground.
The body was gone.
Zoe walked over to a pile of rubble, bent down, and picked up a crushed device.
“This is it,” she said.
She flipped the broken shell over. “Damn, the recording device I lost is totally wrecked.”
Lyra leaned in. “Is the memory card still intact?”
Zoe used a tool to pry open the casing and pulled out the small card. “The shell’s trashed, but the card looks okay. Let’s see if it still works when we get back.”
Lyra let out a sigh of relief. “Hope it caught something useful.”
Zoe tucked the memory card away and tossed the wreckage aside. “There are way more footprints here now. Looks like the Level 2 Wraiths stopped here yesterday, dragged off the dead one, and left just two behind to keep checking things out up
ahead.”
Jane shot her hand up. “Get ready, we’re about to have company!”
