She was at their mercy, after all, and her time here was short anyway. Once Felicity’s postpartum recovery period was over, her job would be done. She didn’t want any trouble, so she decided to just grit her teeth and bear it to the end.
“Get out!” Felicity snapped.
Cursing her silently, Linda closed the door and left.
Now that they were alone, the look on Felicity’s face shifted, giving way to à calculating smirk. “Jasmine it’s been so long. Why can’t you just let it go?”
Jasmine kept her composure. “Let what go?”
Before Jasmine could even react, Felicity suddenly thrust her hand into Jasmine’s pocket. “What’s this?”
Jasmine realized then that Felicity had seen everything she had just done.
“Jasmine,” Felicity said, her mask dropping completely to reveal a vicious expression. “You forced my hand.”
The words had barely left her mouth when Felicity grabbed the baby’s hand and plunged the needle right into it. She was entirely willing to sacrifice her own child to catch her prey, showing absolutely no hesitation or remorse.
The baby burst into a frantic scream of pain.
Terrified, Linda burst back into the room. Right behind her came Madeline and Victoria, along with…
Theodore.
As it turned out, Madeline and the others actually had been on their way home, but they ran into Theodore downstairs, who had just arrived for a visit. Madeline decided to accompany him back up, never imagining they would walk into the sound of her precious great-grandson wailing in pain.
Distressed by the crying, Madeline snapped at Linda. “What on earth are you doing? Why is he crying like this?!”
Linda glanced at Felicity, swallowing her own grievance. “Mrs. Vance, it wasn’t me, it was…”
Felicity dropped to her knees.
Madeline gasped. “Felicity, what are you doing?!”
“Grandmother, I’m the one who made him cry. Don’t blame Linda,” Felicity said, clutching her chest as if she were in absolute agony. “Grandmother, I’m so sorry. I hurt your precious great-grandson, but I didn’t know what else to do. I’m losing my mind!”
Theodore anxiously reached down to pull her up, but Felicity resisted.

“Dad, please, just let me finish!”
Theodore cast a cold glance at Jasmine, then let his hand drop.
“Grandmother! I can’t take this anymore,” Felicity cried. “Please let me take Leo and move out. If I stay at Silas’s place any longer, it’s going to drive me crazy.”
Madeline was utterly bewildered. “Felicity, what are you talking about? And why did you hurt Leo?”
“I didn’t want to! I was forced into a corner.”
Madeline seemed to catch on to what was happening and glared resentfully at Jasmine. “Get up and tellm everything,” Madeline urged gently. “No matter who is bullying you, I will make sure justice is done.”
Victoria quickly stepped forward to help Felicity to her feet.
Once up, Felicity held up the blood collection needle for Madeline to see. “Grandmother, I just took a sample of his blood. That’s why he’s crying.”
Staring at the sharp needle and thinking of the pain her precious great-grandson had just endured, Madeline felt sick with worry. Still, she couldn’t bring herself to take it out on Felicity.
“What is the meaning of this? Why would you need to draw my great-grandson’s blood?”
Felicity glanced back at Jasmine, a flash of mockery and provocation gleaming in her eyes. But by the time she faced Madeline again, her expression had crumbled back into one of sheer, pitiful misery.
Jasmine couldn’t help but marvel at the performance.
The mistress’s acting skills had definitely improved.
But this time, Jasmine had to admit she had let her guard down. She had walked right into the woman’s
trap.
Felicity began to sob.
