Felicity clutched Jasmine’s hand with a look of heart-wrenching helplessness, pleading for forgiveness.

“Jasmine, it’s all my fault. I’m the one who begged Silas and Grandmother. They only agreed because they felt sorry for me. If you want to blame someone, blame-”

“Get off me!” Jasmine snapped, violently throwing her hand off. “Miss Sterling! I have had enough of you Even if you are not tired of it, I am tired on your behalf! It has come to this, and you are still performing?”

Jasmine exposed her ruthlessly.

“Your own husband died, and you immediately set your sights on someone else’s. You put on your sweet obedient act, doing everything you can to seduce and flatter him, racking your brain to scheme and drive a wedge between us. Is that not exactly what you want, to take my place?”

“Felicity.” Jasmine let out a scornful laugh. “You want to act like a whore and still be honored like a saint? I does not work that way. Besides, trying to play mind games with me at your level of intelligence? You are far too green for that. Though…”

Jasmine cast a glance at Theodore. “You do have quite the father, though. One who is all too willing to help you do your dirty work.”

Slap!

The sharp sound of the hand striking Jasmine’s face echoed through the room.

Everyone froze in shock except Theodore. He had hit hard. Blood seeped from the corner of Jasmine’s mouth.

Silas had just walked in when he witnessed the sudden scene unfold before his eyes. He froze on the

spot. Watching Jasmine take that slap, something in his own chest shuddered. It was as though the blow had landed on his own face. He wanted very much to stride forward and confront Theodore. But the moment he thought of the business ties between their two families, the impulse drained out of him.

At present, Nexora Tech had funneled most of its capital into new product development and had little liquidity left to spare. This made the expansion of the new production facility something of a strain. Theodore’s substantial investment had come at exactly the right time, neatly resolving Silas’s cash flow problem.

Naturally, the Vance family held this deep-pocketed partner in the highest regard and had repeatedly urged Silas to keep the relationship with Theodore in good standing. They had stopped just short of telling him outright to become Theodore’s son-in-law.

It took Jasmine a long moment to shake off the dizziness. She tentatively touched her swollen cheek. It throbbed with pain, and the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth, making her stomach turn. The sudden wave of nausea triggered her morning sickness, and she had to fight the urge to throw up. Steeling herself, Jasmine swallowed hard and stared at Theodore, her face entirely blank.

“You are an elder. Hitting you would not sit right morally. So…” Jasmine’s gaze shifted to Felicity. “I can only hit her instead.”

Two crisp, sharp cracks rang out in rapid succession as Jasmine’s hand caught Felicity square across the face. Felicity saw stars, the force of it leaving her completely stunned.

Theodore’s face went crimson. His rough hand shot out and closed around Jasmine’s throat. “You want to die?!” Jasmine did not move a muscle. She was one hundred percent certain that Theodore was not foolish enough to actually choke her to death.

Silas remained rooted to the spot. Watching Jasmine’s fearless eyes and her swollen cheek, he felt a tight, painful lump form in his throat.

“Theodore…” Silas started.

“Well, look at how lively it is in here.”

Someone else beat him to it. Silas watched in utter astonishment as two people walked into the hospital

room.

“Mr. Grant?” Silas breathed.

It was Caleb, and right beside him was Sierra.

Without so much as a glance at Silas, Caleb walked straight over to Jasmine. His eyes swept down from her cheek to her neck, his expression instantly tightening as a cold, menacing smile crossed his lips.

“Mr. Sterling, I suggest you take your paws off her.”

“Mr.

Concerned with his dignity, Theodore wasn’t about to comply so easily.

Caleb clamped his hand around Theodore’s wrist, his grip tightening like a vise. “In my eyes, there is no such thing as automatic respect for elders. I only know that those who deserve respect get it, and those who do not are worth nothing. Mr. Sterling, you already have one foot in the grave. Why are you still carrying on like a petulant child who knows no better?”

As the words left his mouth, Caleb squeezed harder. Wincing in pain, Theodore let go of Jasmine’s neck.

Sierra immediately rushed forward to shield Jasmine behind her, tears welling in her eyes from sheer heartbreak. “Look at you all-grown adults, elders even-ganging up to bully a younger girl. Have you no shame? Every one of you dressed up to the nines, strutting around like wealthy elites, yet behaving worse than animals! Are you not afraid of becoming a laughingstock if word of this gets out?!”

Turning her gaze directly onto Madeline, Sierra added, “Shameless old woman!”
