Overwhelmed by a sense of profound grievance, Felicity didn’t know what to do. “But I don’t want to be away from you…”

“And I can’t stand watching this endless drama day after day.” Exhausted and pushed to his limit. Silas et the harsh truth slip out. “Felicity. I genuinely regret it. I regret having this child with you.”

Felicity went entirely numb. “You regret it?”

“Yes, I regret it. Ever since we crossed that line, everything has been a complete mess. It’s a mess, and I’m sick of it!”

Felicity bit her lip hard. In that painful moment, she knew with absolute certainty that she had truly fallen in love with this man. Otherwise, it wouldn’t hurt this much.

“If you knew this was how it would end, why did you ever start it?” Felicity let out a bitter, hollow laugh. “If you hadn’t gone out of your way to care for me and protect me back then, I never would have fallen for you. And if I hadn’t fallen in love with you, I wouldn’t have tried so hard to stay with the Vance family, to be with you. Silas…” She rushed forward and threw her arms around him. “Please, don’t leave me, okay?”

Silas pushed her away, breaking her embrace.

“I already told you, I will take responsibility for you and the baby!”

“No! I don’t want responsibility, I want you to love me! I want you to be with me forever!”

Silas stood frozen for a long time. He had never expected Felicity’s feelings for him to become this

intense.

This was his retribution.

This was the price he paid for ever thinking he could keep two women living under the same roof in harmony. Now, the one he desperately wanted to keep seemed to be slipping through his fingers, while the one he wanted gone refused to leave.

Was divorce really his only option now?

No. He would not divorce her.

Neglected, the baby began to wail again. For the first time, Silas felt absolutely no desire to pick him up.

Felicity watched him, her heart aching. “Silas, your son is crying for you…”

Silas turned his back to her. “From now on, he is only my nephew. And I am his uncle.”

With that, he walked straight toward the door.

“Silas! She already knows about us! Do you honestly think she will ever forgive you?!” Felicity screamed, her voice cracking with despair.

Silas stopped in his tracks, throwing a cold sentence over his shoulder.

“Felicity, I am never marrying you.”

Bernard kept his eyes on the road, but the conversation filtering through from the back seat was making it hard to concentrate.

“Madeline, what if that bitch tells everyone the truth?” Victoria asked.

Madeline was already losing her patience. “How should I know? Stop asking me what to do about every little thing! Start using your own brain for once!”

Victoria muttered, “You’ve always been the one calling the shots. I’m just used to following your lead.”

“Used to following my lead?” Madeline countered. “Then why were you constantly whispering in my ear back when I was against doing it in the first place?”

“I was only doing what was best for our family,” Victoria argued. “Jasmine contributes absolutely nothing to the Vances. It’s better to kick her to the curb sooner rather than later.”

“Then do it! Kick her out!” Madeline snapped. “Look at the mess we’re in now. She has us by the throat, and we’re going to be at her beck and call!”

“So what do we do?”

Madeline didn’t answer. She slowly closed her eyes.

Victoria rolled her eyes and fell silent.

A few moments later, Madeline’s eyes snapped open, a ruthless gleam flashing across them.

“In my entire life, no one has ever held a leash to my neck.”

Jasmine returned to Moonlight Terrace.

Seeing the bruises on Jasmine’s face, Margaret paced the room in a panicked frenzy.

“Jasmine, did Silas do this to you?”

Jasmine shook her head. Her face throbbed with pain, leaving her with no desire to speak.

“Then it must have been those two women! Jasmine, you can never go back there again. That place is a living hell!”

Caleb grabbed a glass of ice water from the fridge, wrapped a towel around it, and handed it to Jasmine.

“We told you to let a doctor look at it, but you absolutely refused. I have no idea who you inherited that stubborn streak from.”

Margaret was wracked with worry. “Jasmine, why won’t you just see a doctor? You’re pregnant! What if something happens to the baby?”
