“Grandmother, do you know what I hate more than anything? I hate being forced into things.”
Madeline slammed her hand on the desk in anger. “I am your grandmother. not some stranger! And everything I do is for your own good!”
“If it were really for my own good, you never would have made me step aside so Felicity could marry Julian,” Silas retorted, losing his grip on his temper. “If she hadn’t married him, she wouldn’t be a widow right now. She and I would be living happily together. I wouldn’t have to sneak around, resorting to surrogacy and dragging my own reputation through the mud!”
His voice rose as the resentment poured out.
“Felicity and I would have had our own children out in the open! And I wouldn’t have been so heartbroken that I married a woman I don’t even love! This is all because of your blatant favoritism. Julian and I are brothers, but the way you treated us was night and day!”
They were identical twins, but from the moment they were born, Madeline had kept Julian close, doting on him while keeping Silas at arm’s length.
“Now that Julian is dead, you finally remember me,” Silas sneered. “If he were still alive, you probably wouldn’t even notice I exist.”
Her deepest secret laid bare, Madeline stood up in a towering rage. She marched over to Silas and slapped him hard across the face.
“You ungrateful wretch! How dare you speak to me like that!”
The slap snapped Silas back to reality, cooling his temper just enough to realize what he had done. But he was too proud to back down now. He didn’t want to apologize anyway.
The heavy door slammed shut with a deafening bang as Silas stormed out of the room.
Silas got back into the car.
Noticing his grim expression, his assistant, Marcus, wanted to ask if he was alright, but thought better of it. He watched through the rearview mirror as Silas leaned back against the seat and slowly closed his eyes.

After a long, suffocating silence in the car, Silas suddenly opened his eyes.

“Did you send the blood samples over?”
“Yes, sir,” Marcus replied. “They’ve already received them.”
“Is the lab reliable?”
“Completely confidential. It’s heavily restricted; no regular person could ever look into it.”
“How long will it take?”

Silas took a deep drag of his cigarette, then rested his hand on the open window, letting the smoke drift
out.
“Felicity didn’t notice anything, did she?”
“No, sir.”
The car fell silent again. Marcus hesitated several times before finally summoning the courage to speak.
“Mr. Vance… maybe Mrs. Vance is just still upset about you and Felicity, so she’s just lashing out and saying/ whatever comes to mind. I’m certain Leo is your biological son.”
“Of course, I know Leo is mine,” Silas said.
Marcus looked confused. “Then why run a paternity test?”
“Because throwing the test results right in her face is the only way to get her to drop this.”
Light seemed to dawn on Marcus. “So you want to shut Mrs. Vance up so she stops making trouble for Felicity?”
Silas sighed, a look of exhaustion crossing his face. “She’s been taking things a bit too far lately…”
Marcus spoke up, sounding annoyed on his boss’s behalf. “Mrs. Vance really is something else. What happened between you and Felicity is ancient history. Why can’t she just let it go? She’s becoming more and more unreasonable.”
Silas’s expression instantly went cold. “Since when do you have the right to criticize Mrs. Vance?”
Marcus froze.
That wasn’t right. In the past, whenever he complained about Mrs. Vance, Mr. Vance would usually agree with him. Why did he seem so angry this time?
“Don’t let it happen again,” Silas warned coldly.
Marcus didn’t dare say another word. “Understood, Mr. Vance.”
Silas tossed his cigarette out the window. “Drive. Take me to Eclipse.”
Eclipse was the largest entertainment club in Rivercrest.
Unlike ordinary venues, Eclipse offered its guests the ultimate luxury experience. Its staff consisted entirely of elegant women who paired stunning looks with high academic degrees and exceptional talent.
