Chapter 115 You’ve Changed

This woman was the only one who had always been completely honest with him.

His anger faded. “I used to think you only shared Felicity’s looks. Now I see your personality is even more like hers.”

Vivienne smiled. “You’ve changed.”

“Have I?”

“Mm-hmm. You’ve changed because you actually care about Mrs. Vance now.”

Silas caught himself off guard.

“Before, you wouldn’t even spare her a glance, let alone pay attention to what she thought,” Vivienne noted.

Silas fell silent for a moment. Then, tossing his head back, he downed the rest of his wine in a single gulp.

No. He hadn’t changed. That woman had just been making such a massive scene lately that he simply couldn’t ignore

her.

Two days later, the hospital called Jasmine with good news.

“Ms. Thorne, your father is awake.”

Jaśmine was so ecstatic that she rushed out the door and ran straight to the hospital, completely forgetting to change her shoes. It wasn’t until she arrived that she realized she was still wearing slippers, but she couldn’t care less.

When she ran into Harrison in the hallway, she nearly fell to her knees in gratitude. “Dr. Cole, thank you so much. I will never forget your kindness for as long as I live.”

“I didn’t expect the treatment to work this quickly,” Harrison replied. “Your father’s strong will to live must have played a huge part. We can transfer him to a general ward this afternoon, but we can’t let our guard down. He still needs careful recovery, and he mustn’t be exposed to any unnecessary stress. Also, his mind isn’t fully clear yet, and he’s still a bit disoriented, so give him time to adjust.”

Tears streamed down Jasmine’s face.

Thank goodness. Her father was finally going to make it.

She immediately called Ethan. “Ethan, my dad is awake! He’s actually awake!” she cried, her voice bursting with excitement.

Ethan’s tone remained calm, yet gentle. “That’s wonderful news. I’m just sorry it isn’t appropriate for me to

visit him.”

“No, don’t be silly,” Jasmine said, weeping tears of joy. “I just wanted to tell you how incredibly grateful I am. I’ll always remember what you did for me, and I promise I’ll find a way to repay you.”

“There’s no need for that.”

“No! I absolutely insist,” Jasmine countered, sounding like a stubborn little girl. “I can’t just keep owing you like this.”

Ethan couldn’t help but chuckle. “Alright. Whatever makes you happy.”

That afternoon, Arthur was moved to a general ward.

Calling it a “general ward” was a stretch, though; it was a luxury private suite.

Arthur lay in bed, his eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. Eleanor was using a cotton swab to gently dab moisture onto his parched lips. Watching her, Jasmine found it impossible to tell how much affection Eleanor actually felt for her father.

When Jasmine walked in, Eleanor merely shot her a glance and said nothing.

The moment Jasmine reached the bedside, Arthur slid his hand out from under the blanket. Jasmine caught it immediately, softly calling out, “Dad.”

Arthur nodded, his voice hoarse. “Jasmine, you’ve had a hard time.”

Eleanor reflexively snapped, “You’ve been unconscious for three days. How would you know how hard she’s had it? Your son and I have been through a lot worse than her, you know.”

Having just cheated death, Arthur hadn’t forgotten the argument they had right before his collapse. He completely ignored her.

Eleanor tossed her cotton swab sharply into the trash can. “Anyone watching this would think you two were the only real family here, and my son and I were just outsiders.”

Over on the sofa, Hugh sat with his legs crossed, completely absorbed in a mobile game. The sheer panic and helplessness he had shown days ago were entirely gone.

“Mom, the doctor said Dad needs to rest,” Hugh said without looking up from his phone. “Just drop it. If you stress him out and he faints again, we might not get this lucky next time.”

Jasmine marched over and smacked his shoulder. “Shut your mouth.”

Hugh kept swinging his leg, unbothered. “I was sticking up for you, ungrateful,” he muttered.

The words had barely left his mouth when he got slapped again—this time by Eleanor.

“You traitor!” Eleanor hissed.

As she brushed past Jasmine, Eleanor lowered her voice to a sharp whisper. “Don’t forget what you promised me.”

Eleanor had barely stepped out when Silas walked in, carrying a large fruit basket, before Jasmine even had a chance to speak to her father.
