Madeline was looking at the bigger picture. “My concern is that if she refuses to back down, it will only leave us in a tighter spot.”

Victoria fumed. “We can’t just let that woman walk all over us forever! I won’t just sit back and take thi

A sharp gleam flickered in Madeline’s narrowed eyes. “It looks like I’ll have to handle this myself and g have a serious talk with her.”

Jasmine was quite surprised when she saw Madeline’s name flash on her phone.

“I need to talk to you,” Madeline said the moment she picked up.

Jasmine didn’t even have to guess what this was about. “If this is about the divorce, have Silas talk to me

himself.”

“I am speaking on his behalf,” Madeline countered.

“Then I have nothing to say to you.”

Madeline bristled at her dismissive tone. “Jasmine, you are still a daughter-in-law of the Vance family, at least for now.”

“Didn’t you issue a royal decree the other day declaring that I’m no longer part of the Vance family?”

Madeline choked on her words for a moment before snapping, “You had better come and meet me right

now.”

Jasmine hung up on her.

Madeline was so furious she nearly threw her phone across the room.

Sitting nearby, Victoria seized the opportunity to stir the pot, still eager to use Madeline to avenge the slight she had suffered at the hospital earlier. “You see that, Madeline? She has absolutely no respect for

you anymore.”

Madeline pondered for a few seconds, a sudden, calculating smile spreading across her face. “Let’s see if she actually has the guts.”

With that, she typed out a text message and sent it to Jasmine.

Jasmine was sitting by Arthur’s side, chatting with him, when her phone buzzed. Her heart sank when she read the message: [If you don’t want me coming to your father’s room to have this conversation in front of him, you’d better come see me immediately.]

Jasmine let out a cold laugh.

The old fox certainly knew exactly how to pull her strings.

Noticing her blank stare, Arthur asked, “Jasmine, what’s wrong? Who was that text from?”

Jasmine slipped her phone away, acting as if nothing had happened. “Just a spam text I was just letting my mind wander for a second.

“You’ve been exhausted these past few days,” Arthur said. “Why don’t you go back and get some proper

rest?”

Jasmine’s first instinct was to decline, but on second thought, the timing was perfect. “Alright, I’ll go head back for a bit and come right back.”

She turned to the private nurse, giving careful instructions. “Take good care of my father. Call me immediately if anything happens.”

The nurse nodded reassuringly. “Don’t worry, Ms. Thorne. I will.”

Feeling too exhausted to drive, Jasmine decided to hail a cab from the curb and head straight to the address Madeline had texted her.

The location looked vaguely familiar. When she arrived, she realized why-this was the private villa where Madeline and Victoria lived. Having her come here instead of Kingsley Bay was a calculated move, no doubt to keep Silas in the dark.

A servant opened the door but didn’t even bother to greet her as “Mrs. Vance.”

Madeline sat alone in the center of the massive, lavishly decorated living room. Jasmine walked over and remained standing, getting straight to the point. “Alright, you got me here. What do you want?”

Madeline lifted her heavy eyelids with an air of elderly arrogance. “Have you lost your manners entirely? You don’t even know how to greet your elders anymore?”

“I actually just learned a valuable lesson the other day,” Jasmine countered. “Show respect to those who deserve it. As for those who don’t… well, never mind.”

Jasmine deliberately bit her tongue to keep from saying “aren’t worth a damn.” There was no need to make Madeline blow a fuse right out of the gate.

Madeline had no desire to waste time on pleasantries. “Just give me a number. How much do you want?”

Jasmine blinked, momentarily caught off guard. “How much what?”

“You’re clinging to the Vance family, refusing to leave, and dropping hints that you have leverage on us.” Madeline scoffed. “Isn’t it all just a money play?”

Jasmine’s knee-jerk reaction was to deny it, but she caught herself just in time.

If that was what Madeline wanted to believe, she might as well play along. She wanted to see just how much the matriarch of the Vance family was willing to fork over to get rid of her.

“How much are you asking for?” Madeline pressed.

Jasmine strolled over to an armchair, casually brushed away a speck of nonexistent dust, and slowly sat down.
