Suppressing her annoyance, Madeline said, “I won’t. Since I called you here, I intend to settle this.”

Jasmine flashed a meaningful smile. “In that case, I won’t hold back.”

Madeline let out a dismissive grunt.

Jasmine held up five fingers.

Madeline breathed a sigh of relief. “Fine. Five million it is. No problem.”

Jasmine wagged her index finger.

Madeline’s brow furrowed. “Fifty million?”

The corners of Jasmine’s mouth curled up.

Madeline finally snapped. “Don’t you think you’re pushing it? Demanding fifty million right out of the gate!”

Jasmine’s smile widened. “Wrong again. Keep guessing.”

Madeline’s face turned pale with rage. “Jasmine, do you honestly think you’re worth a fortune? Five hundred million dollars? You’ve got to be joking!”

Jaśmine leaned back against the sofa, looking as relaxed and lazy as a cat.

Resisting the urge to slap her, Madeline let out a mocking laugh. “Jasmine, you think far too highly of yourself.”

“Five hundred million is actually a bargain for you,” Jasmine countered.

She figured that if Madeline actually agreed to pay the five hundred million, she would consider it a discounted sale of her AI model to Silas. It would save her from having to play the villain. After all, once that AI model hit the market, Nexora Tech’s profits would far exceed five hundred million dollars.

Of course, Madeline had absolutely no idea what Jasmine was referring to; her face twisted in pure contempt. “Do you think you’re some rare treasure worth five hundred million? You’ve been married into the Vance family for three years and haven’t even produced an heir. What makes you think you’re worth that much?”

Instead of getting angry, Jasmine laughed. “Hasn’t the Sterling heiress already provided the Vance family with an heir? What do you need me for?”

Madeline narrowed her eyes, taking a long moment to steady herself. “Jasmine, I am trying to have a serious negotiation with you.”

Jasmine leaned back, casually playing with her fingers. “And I am being completely serious. The moment that five hundred million hits my account, I’ll get out of your hair for good.”

Madeline realized there was no point in continuing. “It seems we have nothing more to say to each other

“If you aren’t going to be serious about this, then don’t waste my time,” Jasmine said indifferently. “Even Felicity understood that you have to spend money to get what you want. I guess you’re a slower learner

than she is.”

“So by the looks of it,” Madeline countered, “you have no intention of leaving the Vance family unless you get this five hundred million?”

“Exactly.”

Madeline let out a cold scoff. “And here I thought you were clinging to the family because you loved Silas and couldn’t bear to let him go. Turns out the only thing you can’t bear to let go of is five hundred million dollars.”

“What if I am?” Jasmine replied.

“Nothing.” Madeline turned toward the back of the room and called out, “Silas, you can come out now.”

Silas stepped out from behind a decorative screen, his expression incredibly grim.

Jasmine glanced at him, her expression entirely unbothered.

Hah.

Did that old fox Madeline really think she was an idiot?

Jasmine hadn’t been entirely sure it was a trap at first, but the moment Madeline started aggressively baiting her, she knew exactly what was going on.

Fine. She had nothing better to do anyway, so she had decided to play along

“Silas, you heard her with your own ears,” Madeline said. “Are you still going to be blinded by this woman?”

Silas ignored his grandmother and walked straight over to stand in front of Jasmine. “Is it true?”

Jasmine looked up at him. “It’s true. So, are you going to give me the five hundred million?”

Furious, Silas snapped, “In your dreams!”

Jasmine offered a sweet smile. “Then we have nothing left to discuss.”

Completely ignoring the storm brewing on Silas’s face, Jasmine turned her attention back to Madeline. “If you want me out of the Vance family, you need to offer me something enticing enough to make it worth my while. Otherwise, why would I leave? I don’t have to work; people wait on me hand and foot every single day, and I eat well and dress well without lifting a finger. It’s a pretty great life. Don’t you agree, dearest grandmother?”

Madeline was completely thrown off. She had never expected Jasmine to confess so bluntly; she had assumed the woman would desperately try to lie her way out of it. Now, Madeline was at a loss for words.
