[Sterling Group Under Audit for Alleged Tax Evasion; Authorized Representative Theodore Taken into Custody this Morning]
Theodore was notorious for throwing his weight around, so when the news broke, plenty of people were secretly celebrating behind his back.
Felicity felt as though her world had collapsed, sobbing uncontrollably. “Grandmother, what am I going to do? Is my dad going to be okay?”
Madeline was still in complete shock, caught entirely off guard. How could something like this happen so suddenly?
“Grandmother…” Seeing that Madeline wasn’t responding, Felicity grew even more terrified. “I beg you, please help my dad.”
Madeline wrapped her arms around her, heartbroken. “Shh, it’s alright. Don’t panic. Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding. There’s no way your father would evade taxes. Let’s wait until they clear things up.”
Felicity’s eyes were swollen from crying. “Grandmother, I’m so sorry…”
“You silly child,” Madeline said. “What does this have to do with you? Don’t overthink it, I don’t blame you at all.”
Just then, Chloe bounded into the room like a social butterfly.
It was rare for Madeline to lose her temper with her, but she snapped, “You haven’t been home in days! You didn’t even visit Leo when he was in the hospital! Where on earth have you been?”
Chloe looked cheerful. “Grandmother, I told you already. I was going to Portshire for a couple of days. Did you forget?”
Only then did Madeline remember. “I really am getting old and muddled. I completely forgot.”
Chloe leaned in close to coax her. “Grandmother isn’t old at all. Everyone says you look so young-at least twenty years younger than your actual age.”
Madeline beamed, thoroughly charmed. “Well, don’t go running off again these next few days. Stay and keep Felicity company.”
“Got it,” Chloe replied. With that, she clattered up the stairs.
Once behind her closed bedroom door, Chloe pulled a few photos out of her bag.
The person in the pictures was Judy.
No one would have guessed that Chloe’s trip to Portshire wasn’t actually for vacation; she had gone to dig up information on Ethan’s fiancée. She desperately wanted to know what the woman looked like in real

life and which prominent family she belonged to.
Chloe stared at the bright, beautiful woman in the photographs and curled her lip in disdain.
Hmph.
Whatever Judy had, she had too. Sooner or later, she would steal the man she loved away from this woman.
The moment Silas walked through the door, Felicity threw herself into his arms.
“Silas!”

“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered. “I’m here.”
Felicity couldn’t stop crying. “Silas, I’m so scared. I’m scared something will happen to my dad, and I’m scared everyone will look down on me and abandon me.”
Silas comforted her gently. “Silly girl. I promised I’d take care of you for the rest of your life and never leave you, remember?”
Meanwhile, Sierra was arriving at the apartment building to visit Jasmine, her hands full of shopping bags. when she ran into Caleb walking out.
She had been meaning to track him down anyway. “Dinner at my place tomorrow night.”
Caleb didn’t look surprised. “What, is your dad ready to inspect his future son-in-law?”
“I knew you were smart,” Sierra joked. “Picked the right guy.”
“I have plans tomorrow night,” Caleb said.
Sierra knew it wouldn’t be that easy. “Alright, name your price. What’s it going to take?”
“Same as before. Talk me up to Jasmine. Convince her to marry me after the divorce.”
This time, Sierra agreed without hesitation. “Fine. Consider it done. I’m on my way up to talk to her right
now.”
Caleb held the door open for her. “After you, Sierra.”
Sierra walked in, then turned back around. “I didn’t drive. Why don’t you wait for me and give me a ride in a bit?”
“Sure.”
Seeing him turn to leave, Sierra called out, “Aren’t you coming in?”
