The words slipped out of Sierra’s mouth before she could stop them. “Don’t even start. The guy literally went to war for you.”
The smile faded from Jasmine’s face. “I feel like I’m constantly in his debt.”
Sierra climbed onto the bed and wrapped an arm around her. “I was just kidding. It probably wasn’t entirely for you anyway. Ethan got dragged into the whole mess after all. Even though he didn’t get hurt, he had to defend his honor. Otherwise, Theodore would think he completely runs Rivercrest.”
Jasmine still looked worried. “I’m just afraid this feud is only going to get deeper, and I’ll end up dragging him down with me.”
Caleb walked right into Ethan’s apartment as if it were his own, punching in the keypad code and stepping inside.
Ethan was sitting on the living room sofa with his laptop open, lines of code scrolling across the screen.
Caleb grabbed a drink from the fridge for himself. “What are you looking at?”
“A major gift from Jasmine,” Ethan replied.
Caleb’s interest was instantly piqued. “What kind of gift? Let me see!”
“You wouldn’t understand it.”
Caleb slouched lazily into the sofa. “Then explain it to me.”
Ethan closed his laptop. “It’s an AI technology designed for aviation. Silas’s company was originally developing it, but Jasmine handed the core data over to me. I just took a look, and if we follow her line of thinking, we can get it on the market in no time. Once it’s widely adopted in the aviation sector, Zenith Tech will instantly leap to the forefront of the tech industry.”
Caleb raised an eyebrow. “She’s completely destroying Silas. Then again, the guy deserves it. He didn’t know a treasure when he had one, and he actually had the nerve to cheat.”
Ethan rubbed his tired eyes. “Did you just come from her place?”
“Yeah, just visited her,” Caleb said, swirling the drink can in his hand.
“How is she?”
“She’s doing alright. Looking good, full of energy-just a bit bored. Like you, she was buried in code. It suddenly hit me how similar you two actually are. Driven, resilient, never giving up on something once you’ve set your mind to it. You both seem aloof and detached, but you’re incredibly loyal to the people close to you.”
Ethan smiled faintly. “Maybe that’s why we work well together.”
“Seriously though,” Caleb said, “if you’re worried about her, just go see her.”

Chapter 128 Dragging Him Down
Ethan thought back to how he had hidden in the kitchen the day before and found it amusing in hindsight. “It’s not appropriate.”

“What’s inappropriate about it? Look at me, I come and go as I please. I don’t give a damn about any of
that nonsense.”
Ethan smiled but said nothing.
After a pause, Ethan spoke up again. “I found out Theodore might be involved in smuggling. If we keep digging, it won’t just be tax evasion anymore. He’d probably spend the rest of his life behind bars. I’ve paused the investigation for now.”
Caleb was perplexed. “If it’s just tax evasion, as long as he cooperates and pays the back taxes promptly, t shouldn’t be a huge issue. Theodore will likely avoid prison time. Aren’t we letting him off too easily? Why not just finish him off for good?”
A sharp, knowing look entered Ethan’s eyes. “Sterling Group can’t go under yet.”
“But why?” Caleb asked.
Ethan replied, “Because she isn’t divorced yet.”
Caleb thought it over for a long moment before the pieces finally clicked, a grin spreading across his face.
“You really are something else…”
Madeline only wanted Felicity to marry Silas because Sterling Group’s influence would be a massive boost for the Vance family. But if Sterling Group were busted for smuggling, Madeline would be the very first to cut ties with them. As for Felicity, knowing Madeline’s ruthless tactics, she might just take the child and cast the mother aside.
If Silas were no longer a viable match for Felicity, Madeline wouldn’t be in such a rush to kick Jasmine out. Therefore, Sterling Group had to stay afloat for now. Madeline needed to keep seeing the two families as equals.
Caleb couldn’t help but marvel at the strategy. “You’ve really thought of everything for her. If you tried to tell me there are no personal feelings involved, I wouldn’t believe you for a second.”
Ethan remained silent, so Caleb let the matter drop.
“But you pulled a lot of strings to deal with Theodore this time,” Caleb noted. “Aren’t you worried your father will find out?”
“He already knows,” Ethan said. “He told me to come home tonight.”
Caleb gave him a sympathetic look. ‘Good luck, man. Take care.”
That evening, Ethan returned home.
A servant bowed respectfully to take his shoes, whispering a quiet warning. “Mr. Brooks, your father is in a terrible mood. Please watch what you say when you go in.”
