Theodore stroked her hair, playing the part of a doting, loving father perfectly. “Felicity, the Sterling family estate is ultimately going to be yours one day. You need to start taking an interest in our business from now on.”
Felicity pouted. “Everyone says you have other kids out there. Who knows how many half-siblings I actually have?”
Theodore laughed, though the warmth didn’t quite reach his eyes. “That’s just gossip from envious people who love to talk trash. Sweetheart, I’ve always spoiled you more than anyone. Don’t you know that?”
This satisfied Felicity. “Dad, I want to help, I just don’t know what I can do for you.”
“It’s simple,” Theodore said. “All you have to do is secure your place in the Vance family.”
“I know that, but Silas…” Felicity trailed off, looking miserable at the thought. “He told me to move back into the apartment I shared with Julian.”
“What!” Theodore’s voice sharpened. “I thought you said things were going great between you two.”
“I don’t know what happened, but he’s changed over the last couple of days. He seems to be paying more and more attention to that woman.”
“Listen to me, Felicity,” Theodore said, lowering his voice to soothe her, “Silas loves you. That alone gives you a massive advantage over her.”
“I don’t know…” Felicity was already losing her confidence.
“There is one surefire way to guarantee you become the next Mrs. Vance.”
“How?”
Theodore leaned in and whispered a few words in her ear.
“Dad, will that really work? What if Silas refuses?”
Theodore let out a cold laugh. “That depends on how smart you are. I’ll play my part too, and make sure to create the perfect opportunity for you.”
Jasmine met with Silas again.
He had brought the divorce papers with him. The speed of it all caught her completely off guard.
She carefully reviewed the terms of the agreement. The settlement was fifty million dollars plus a car- specifically, the one she was currently driving. Worth around six hundred thousand dollars, it had been part of her dowry when they married. Fortunately, Eleanor hadn’t managed to snatch that away, either.
Without a moment’s hesitation. Jasmine signed her name.

Watching her elegant signature take shape on the page, Silas felt a sudden, heavy tightness in his chest.
“I already ran the fifty-million-dollar settlement by Grandma,” he said. “She approved it.”
“Great,” Jasmine replied. “Just transfer it over as soon as possible.”
“Grandma wants to wait until the divorce certificate is finalized.”
“That’s fine. No problem.”
Silas fell silent for a moment. “You don’t seem sad at all.”
Jasmine wanted to laugh, but she knew better. Keeping her voice perfectly calm, she said, “You don’t have to wear your heartbreak on your sleeve. Not everyone thinks throwing a tantrum is the only way to get what they want.”
Silas gathered the papers. “Once Leo is discharged from the hospital, we’ll go to family court to finalize everything.”
“Alright.”
Silas opened his mouth as if to say something else, but the words wouldn’t come. Staring at her calm, detached expression, he suddenly realized how distant she had become. She felt so far away now, entirely out of his reach.
Was getting a divorce actually the right move?
An awkward silence stretched between them until Jasmine broke it.
“Does this mean I don’t have to go back to the Vance estate anymore? Can I just stay at my own place?”
My own place. Just saying those words felt incredibly liberating.
“Stay wherever you want,” Silas said. “I won’t force you.”
He was being so agreeable that Jasmine found it jarring. This wasn’t the Silas she knew at all.
“It’ll save you and Felicity from getting into any more arguments anyway,” Silas added. “If you stay here, things will be more peaceful over there.”
Jasmine internally rolled her eyes, utterly speechless.
“But the day after tomorrow is Chloe’s birthday,” he continued. “You need to be there.”
Her birthday?
Jasmine suddenly remembered that Ethan had promised Chloe he would attend her party. Ethan definitely wouldn’t want to go, but Chloe would only nag him if he didn’t.
