Arthur froze in surprise, his expression turning to excitement before quickly shifting into worry. In a matter of seconds, a dozen different emotions crossed his face.

“But you and Silas…”

“I thought it was Silas’s, too. But during the IVF procedure, the hospital mixed up the samples. They used someone else’s.”

Arthur gently took Jasmine’s hand. “Can you tell me who the biological father is?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Jasmine replied, “Ethan.”

Arthur looked slightly taken aback. “Ethan? From Zenith Tech?”

“Yes,” Jasmine said. “But he doesn’t know, and I don’t plan on telling him. It was my mistake using his sample in the first place. If he found out, it would just be a burden for him.”

Arthur nodded in agreement. “True. It’s best not to cause trouble for anyone else.”

“Dad,” Jasmine said, squeezing his hand. “I’m sorry for waiting until now to tell you.”

Arthur gave her a warm, loving smile. “Silly girl. It’s your choice whether you tell me or not. Whatever you decide to do, I’ll support you.”

“So you’re okay with me keeping the baby?” Jasmine asked.

“Of course I am,” Arthur said. “As long as it’s what my daughter wants and it makes you happy, that’s all that

matters.”

“Dad,” Jasmine murmured, leaning into Arthur’s embrace. “Thank you.”

Arthur cherished the embrace, reluctant to let her go for a long time.

“There’s one more thing,” Jasmine said. “Silas and I have already signed the divorce papers. We’re going to family court in a few days to finalize everything.”

Arthur didn’t look surprised at all. “Good. As long as…” He suddenly remembered something. “Jasmine, whatever you do, make sure you don’t tell your mother about the divorce yet.”

Jasmine nodded. “I know.” If Eleanor found out, it would unleash a whole world of trouble.

“Dad, you’re going to be a grandfather. Are you happy?”

“I don’t want a boy, though,” Jasmine teased playfully. “I want a daughter.”

“Alright, alright, a daughter it is then,” Arthur chuckled. “I’m sure she’ll grow up to be just as beautiful as

her mother.”

As Arthur looked at his daughter, a sudden wave of reluctance and anxiety washed over him. His eyelid had been twitching for the past two days, and he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something terrible was about to happen. After weighing it over in his mind, he decided he had to tell Jasmine the truth about what he knew.

Whether his daughter could ever forgive him or not, he needed to get it out. Otherwise, if something were to happen to him one of these days…

Jasmine sat back down in her chair and picked up an orange from the bedside table, starting to peel it. “What is it, Dad?”

“Arthur.”

Eleanor’s sudden entrance cut Arthur off entirely.

Jasmine’s mind was still fixed on her father’s interrupted sentence, and she gave Eleanor only a brief, dismissive glance. “Dad, what were you trying to tell me?”

“What kind of secrets are you two whispering about?” Eleanor asked. “Why don’t you let me in on it?”

Arthur had no choice but to drop the subject for now. “We’re just chatting, there are no secrets.”

Eleanor let out a sharp scoff. “Right, you just don’t want to include an outsider like me.”

Anxious to keep Arthur from getting upset, Jasmine quickly stood up. “Dad, I’m going to head out now. I’ll come see you first thing tomorrow morning and spend the whole day with you.”

She and Eleanor were practically sworn enemies, so it was always best to avoid being in the same room.

“Alright,” Arthur said. “Go home and get some rest.”

Jasmine walked over to the door.
