It felt like a victory, but Jasmine had already lost everything. Her burning tears splashed onto the coffin. They say the loss of a loved one isn’t a sudden storm, but a lifelong, lingering dampness.

How was she supposed to carry the weight of so many regrets?

Tears flooded her eyes, blurring her vision. Through the haze, a familiar figure appeared, standing quietly by her side with a deep furrow in his brow. Jasmine straightened up and blinked. Her tears seemed to have run dry, leaving her eyes burning and raw.

It wasn’t an illusion. It was really him.

“Ethan?”

Ethan reached out, gently wiping a stray tear from the corner of her eye with his thumb. “I’m sorry.”

Jasmine didn’t understand what he was apologizing for. None of this was his fault; if anything, he was her

savior.

“Ethan…” Jasmine began to tremble uncontrollably. “I don’t have a dad anymore.”

Ethan pulled her gently into his arms, softly patting her back. “Arthur hasn’t left you. He’s just found a different way to be by your side.”

Finding a profound sense of comfort in his embrace, Jasmine whispered, “Really?”

Ethan’s voice was soft and low. “Life and death are just states of being, like the front and back of a piece of paper. Both are real, they just can’t see each other. Don’t be too sad, because right on the other side of you is Arthur. You will always be connected. Decades from now, that paper will fold, and the two of you will meet and be reunited again.”

Sierra walked over and choked back a sob, gently resting a hand on Jasmine’s head. “I’m so sorry for your loss, Jasmine.”

Caleb was deeply shaken, all his usual carefree attitude completely gone. “You’re going to be okay, Jasmine. Arthur might be gone, but you still have us. We won’t ever let the Vances bully you again.”

Jasmine stepped back from Ethan’s embrace and took a few deep breaths, trying hard to steady her emotions. “My mind was all over the place just now. I acted on pure impulse and dragged you all into this.”

Sierra gave her a tight hug. “Don’t say such stupid things. You didn’t drag us into anything. Besides, I’ve wanted to tear into Felicity for a long time now. I was just waiting for an excuse.”

“Yeah, and I’ve been dying to punch Silas for ages,” Caleb added. “I’ve tolerated that guy for way too long.”

Jasmine felt a wave of genuine gratitude. “Thank you.”

Arthur’s sudden passing showed Jasmine the harsh truth of the world-how the wealthy always find

friends in remote mountains, while the poor are ignored in the busiest streets. When it had been Arthur’s birthday, an endless stream of people had lined up to bring him gifts. Now that he lay here in eternal sleep, the crowd gathering to say goodbye was pitifully small.

But every single person from Ethan’s company showed up. They bowed three times before the casket, staying with Arthur until the very end and giving him the dignity and respect he deserved.

Jasmine didn’t shed a single tear during the memorial service. Her heart felt dead, her mind completely blank. She just mechanically went through the motions, handling the remaining arrangements.

But the moment Arthur’s body was pushed into the cremation furnace, it felt like a knife slicing repeatedly through her chest, leaving it raw and bleeding.

Jasmine couldn’t take any more. Her body gave out, and she collapsed into a pair of strong, steady arms. Just before slipping away, she heard someone call her name through the haze. The voice sounded anxious. laced with a rare hint of panic.

It wasn’t Caleb’s, and it wasn’t Sierra’s.

Was it Ethan’s…?

Jasmine sank into a bottomless darkness. She wandered through the void alone, crying out desperately for help. Just as despair was about to swallow her whole, a voice murmured softly in her ear.

“Don’t be afraid. It’s just a dream.”

Jasmine snapped her eyes open. Looking around the familiar surroundings, she realized she was back at Moonlight Terrace. Sierra was perched on the bed, watching her anxiously, while Caleb sat by her side. occasionally checking under her nose to make sure she was still breathing as if terrified she might pass away. Ethan sat on the sofa, his expression grim.

Seeing her stir, Caleb tried to force a smile but couldn’t quite manage it. “Oh, thank god, you’re finally awake. Any longer and we really would have rushed you to the ER.”

With Sierra’s help, Jasmine propped herself up. When she tried to speak, her throat burned, and her cheeks felt flushed and hot. “How did I get back here? Where’s my dad?”

Sierra sighed. “You fainted. Ethan knew you wouldn’t want to go to a hospital, so he had a doctor come directly to the house. The doctor said the fever is from extreme grief and malnutrition. Since you’re pregnant, we can’t just pump you full of medication, so we’ve been trying to bring your temperature down with cold compresses.”
