Silas looked utterly vexed. “I don’t even know what happened. Yesterday, I just…”

“Then again,” Madeline interrupted, “it’s perfectly normal for a man to have those kinds of needs, so don’t beat yourself up over it. Besides, once you divorce that woman, Felicity will marry you anyway.”
The mention of the divorce agreement gave Silas pause. Suddenly, he felt a pang of reluctance to go through with it.
Madeline caught his hesitation. “Silas, I always keep my promises. Once you and Felicity officially register your marriage, I will hand over all of the Vance family businesses to you. As for me, I’ll just stay home and spend time with my great-grandson. I’m too tired to deal with the business world anymore, so I’ll leave you to run the show.”
The mix of a stern reminder and a glittering temptation instantly wiped away the budding regret Silas had just begun to feel.
Felicity’s hands were shaking as she dialed the number.
The line connected. “Dad, we have a problem. Silas…”
A knock at the door sounded just as Felicity hung up. The initial panic and fear had faded, leaving only a lingering ache of heartbreak.
She walked over and opened the door.
Silas was standing outside, holding a platter of fruit. The moment Felicity saw him, the tears started flowing again.
Silas closed the door behind him with one hand. “Alright, it’s my fault, okay?”
Felicity turned away in a huff. “How could I ever say you’re wrong? I’m the one at fault here. I should never have asked to borrow your sperm to carry on Julian’s bloodline in the first place.”
Silas’s eyes flickered. He leaned down, blowing softly into her ear. “If you’re going to stay mad, I’m leaving.”
He made a show of turning to go, but Felicity threw her arms around him. “Don’t go.”
A smirk played on Silas’s lips as he turned back to face her. “Not mad anymore?”
Felicity looked down, her voice a needy pout. “I love you too much to stay mad at you.”
Silas led her over to the sofa. “I brought you some fresh cherries. Aren’t these your favorites?”
Felicity snuggled against his shoulder. “Then feed me.”
Silas picked one up and brought it to her lips, but Felicity whined playfully. “No, not like that…”
That sultry whimper instantly brought back memories of what had happened in the car, sending a sudden spike of heat straight through him.

He gave a wicked smirk. “Then how do you want me to feed you?”

Felicity climbed onto his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I want you to use your mouth.”
Silas felt his whole body tighten. He traced her lips with his finger, the crude words slipping out before he could stop them. “Who knew that sweet little mouth of yours could do more than just whine? You’re actually pretty good at…”
Felicity pressed her lips close to his ear, her warm breath a deliberate provocation. “Want to try it again?”
It was well past midnight by the time Silas finally left Felicity’s room, wearing the unmistakable smirk of a thoroughly satisfied man.
Victoria smirked to herself as she walked into Madeline’s bedroom.
“Madeline, you really are a genius! Silas just left her room. I think we’re completely in the clear now- there’s no way things will fall through between them. Now we just have to wait for him to finalize the divorce with Jasmine.”
“Don’t celebrate too early,” Madeline replied. “There’s still that mandatory one-month cooling-off period for divorces. What if Silas still has feelings for that nobody and changes his mind halfway through?”
“Oh, Madeline, relax,” Victoria said. “Silas isn’t an idiot. You think he’d throw away a massive family fortune just to be with that woman? He’s not that foolish.”
“He isn’t foolish, but sometimes he’s a little too smart for his own good. And being too smart isn’t always a blessing.”
Victoria frowned, thoroughly confused. “Madeline, what are you talking about? What do you mean? How can Silas being smart be a bad thing?”
Madeline gave a soft scoff. “Aren’t you worried at all? Once I hand over the family fortune and he becomes the official head of the Vance family, we won’t be able to control him anymore.”
Victoria shrugged, taking a simpler view of things. “Then we don’t control him. Silas is always rational. Besides, he’s my son and your grandson-it’s not like he’d ever hurt us.”
Madeline cut straight to the point. “And what if he can’t cut ties with Jasmine and tries to bring her back into the Vance family?”
Victoria froze. “Surely not! Why would he ever go back to his ex?”
Madeline didn’t pursue the topic, a sharp gleam flashing in her eyes. “By the way, how is Chloe doing?”
“That girl has been dressing up to the nines and running out the door every single day,” Victoria complained. “I have no idea what she’s up to!”
Madeline sighed heavily. “What else do you think she’s doing?”
